The first major reason eleven major corporations left the United States in 2009 was the second highest corporate tax rate in the world. The second reason was the lack of talent in the engineering fields because of a faltering federal education program.
I can only hope that the pendulum has swung as far to the left as it's going to and that there will be an adjustment as it swings back...I'm not confident of that though.
So, once again we see the answer to an academic problem is to lower the bar for everyone. If the school system truly believes what they say, that "the most academically prepared kids will get by,” that “they’ll find tutors,” and “they’ll learn the material one way or another,” will the schools object if their parents decide to homeschool them? I bet they won’t!

One might have said just a little more tha a year ago that "This could only happen in Berkley" being this is in the land of Pelosi, Fienstien, Boxer and Schwarzenegger. But I fear like other CA policies it will spread.
My kids experienced two years-worth of US education. I observed that, with the exception of a couple of great teachers, most of the teaching staff were satisfied with getting all the kids to the same mediocre level of achievement. Excellence was almost feared. (I observe that it's starting to get that way in the UK as well with qualifications dumbed down so that all can pass!). The parents blamed "No Child Left Behind". Now I'm confused ...... wasn't this brought in by Bush?? Hardly a leftie?
With LL, I'd like to think that the pendulum will begin to swing back, but its unlikely. In the meanwhile, those that can least afford it continue to be the victims of an egregiously failed experiment in social engineering - and our schools devolve into pre-prison holding pens. Nice.
Well, that ought to ensure no already over privileged white kid takes a Nobel prize any time in the future. Thats one of the most appalling things I've ever read.
Public education sucks in Canada, too. But ti doesn't suck quite that bad, yet.

In my opinion the Teachers Unions did all they could to make it unworkable using a tactic known in the UK as Work-to-Rule. It became so cumbersome, complicated and punitive that it died.
When I was in high school I remember reading a science fiction story about equal opportunity and how intelligent persons were forced to wear devices that prohibited them from concentrating or focusing on intellectual pursuits; gifted athletes had to wear weights and restrictive devices to limit their physical prowess. Under the law. no one was allowed to excell in anything that would show that they were superior to an established norm in any field.
Whenever someone rose above a certain level, they were hauled away by the police. This is pretty much what the liberals have done to our schools.
I read that story over forty years ago and thought, "What a ridiculous premise!" I no longer think so.
Eliminate science classes... There's the path to American renewal!
