Some forms of sacrilege are too terrible to bear. This video is one of them! I'm surprised the ice rink didn't open up and swallow the entire cast whole.
Lee Marvin, a US Marine, was shot in the ass during the Battle for Saipan, June 1944. He spent some time (a year?) in the hospital as it damaged his sciatic nerve. He is interned at Arlington National Cemetery. One of the finer actors ever to grace Hollywood, they just do not make them like that anymore. Neither he nor Bob Keeshan (Capt. Kangaroo) saw action on Iwo Jima.
A friend of the family did. He just suffered a stroke last week and is very frail. I fear that he won't be with us much longer. He and my FIL used to sit together at our Xmas gatherings and talk about the war. No one else was invited to the table, they sat alone off to one corner. So very, very many of these heroes are gone.
Oh, and I never watch Pansies On Ice. They are just a grand jete away from disappearing up someone's butt crack. Butt that's no reason to make snide comments about Mooshell Obongo's new spectacular show, Ass Capades, starring Sonja Heinie and Katarina Split with a special appearance by Squat Hamilton.
Well, I can testify that your life does flash before your eyes.
And most probably know, but Lee Marvin, as most male hollywood stars of the era, was a hero. He was at Iwo Jima, and received a Purple Heart for part in the action. He once explained to Johnny Carson that a man much braver than he was there with him. Bob, who later became Captain Kangaroo.
