There is a new "shotgun" in town. It is now being used by US Forces in Afghanistan. It is a Bofors Carl Gustav 84mm recoilless rifle with special munitions that allow it to launch a projectile with 1,100 steel darts. It is incredibly effective. One US soldier who used it to kill 25 terrorists called it a "meat grinder."There are few things more destructive at close range than a shotgun. To have a weapon that can deliver such a devastating blow at 100 meters is of great comfort to the troops that are using it.

Of course since it does exactly what it is supposed to do - inflict death over a wide swath of territory - it attracts the usual crowd of protestors.
My daughter is assigned to a FOB near Kandahar. I hope she gets two of these things.
Many of the American public believe that, in war, our military mustn't "inflict death, at all. We're doomed.
ReplyDeleteI just need one for a couple of hours. I have gophers in my front lawn.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see your Daughter get at least two ... Thank You Young Lady!
ReplyDeleteNice piece of equipment!
ReplyDeleteI wish all in any hot zone get a minimum of two and I join odie in thanking your daughter for her service!
(p.s., I could use one myself given my proximity to Dearborn, MI let alone Detroit)
Far superior to our old M79 with a buckshot round. You don't have to get so close you can smell them.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a right fine piece to be packin' if they want to nail the enemy enmasse.
ReplyDeleteSome people don't live in real life. This would be, it seems to me, a wonderful tool.
ReplyDeleteSig, I'll 2nd that.
ReplyDeleteHeck, I don't know what they're complaining about; these people do that to themselves !
I salute your daughter for her service. I would like one of these new weapons for a few days.
ReplyDeleteOdie - she also is very fond of the Ma Deuce.
ReplyDeleteWetzy - I'm sure the Marines are also using this for varmint control.
ReplyDeleteChris - thanks. The folks in Dearborn are thinking of renaming their city West Yemen.
ReplyDeleteRhod - we were only allowed to use the M-79 for gas grenades. I would have loved to use a buckshot round on several close quarter occasions.
ReplyDeleteNickie - they won't be satified until our GI's are prancing in parades and mincing around on Memorial Day.
ReplyDeleteMan - I believe it is called an area denial weapon.
ReplyDeleteSort of like a "Go Directly To Hell, Do Not Bother To Pick Up All The Pieces."
WoFat - funny thing, they have no problem when some 7th century savage hacks off someone's head or drives a big assed Buick over a 6 year old's arm to teach him a lesson.
ReplyDeleteFuzzyD - thank you, it's gotta be a rush dropping the hammer on soemthing like that. I'd never miss a deer again.
