It isn't what it seems though, they have no care for savages. I think they are trying to say that since savages, in their fiction, are pure and good, then they can be. They are looking for the back door to salvation, minus Christ, God.<br /><br />Could tell them. There is no back door. But they want to live as pagans (in classical Latin, I recently learned, the term pagan is actually the term used for urbanites) and still get to heaven. But the only way they can do that is to show that some level of humanity is pure by itself. They are only fooling themselves. No one outside of ivory towers believes.
