Escaped cow shot 11 times, killed at Sacramento's California State Fair

Yup... ELEVEN TIMES - to kill a COW! Can't help but think of THIS.

SACRAMENTO, CA - Cal Expo officials said it was justified, but others at the California State Fair wondered if it was necessary for fair police to shoot and kill a pregnant cow Tuesday morning after the animal broke free at the state fairgrounds.

According to fair officials, UC Davis veterinarian staff were unloading the cow in the livestock area around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday when the bovine broke free and headed toward the fairgrounds. The dairy cow was supposed to give birth Wednesday and be a part of the Livestock Nursery attraction, Cal Expo deputy director Brian May said.

May said Cal Expo police were able to contain the animal in a tunnel, but before she could be tranquilized, the cow got free and headed into the fairgrounds.

"We spent more than an hour trying to coax her into a trailer," May said.

Eventually, police cornered her in front of the Golden1 performance stage, where they said she charged an officer after a tranquilizer gun misfired.

People + guns = a violent and completely OTT reaction to a situation that could have been dealt with intelligently and calmly. How ridiculous and very sad. At least no-one was hurt in the crossfire!

  5. hey, all of us who are dads know how unpredictable and erratic the female of any species can become when knocked up. look at it this way, several got to see the other side of farm living, which is butchering of a carcass, and hopefully the eating of some really fresh beef.

  6. Nicki,

Wa-a-a-a-a-ay OT but thanks for "following my site" today.

In possibly the most perfidious excuse offered since last weeks' pathetic attempted "refudiations" of the Journ-o-Lists by the Left, I lost track of your site many moons ago and needed the reference link.

I have now linked your site and will be back over here to Hoover up your wit and wisdom.

    Thanks,

    The War Planner.

  7. I feel for the cow actually.
Pregnant animals like to give birth in a quiet secluded place, and no doubt that's what the animal was looking for. Finally charging the cop who the cow perceived as a threat to her unborn. Mistakes all over the place here.

Cambridge Lady, won't it be nice when only the violent criminals are carrying guns ?

    Kid, stop aerating the compost.

Anyways... when guns are outlawed, only bovines will have guns. And outlaws.

  11. Nick . . . Shooting a pregnant cow was stupid. There are dozens of alternatives available. If those idiots can't figure out how to contain a cow until she settles down, they should not be allowed to carry a gun. Cows like old Bessie don't have elevators that go to the top. Patience is necessary. You know, just like with President Obamanation.
