It's Hard to Make Soccer Uglier and More Boring than it is, but ...

You have to hand it to the Dutch. They did it. Thank God the spectacle is over.

With the Netherlands' loss in the World Cup Final, Van Gogh's paintings and the invention of the wooden shoe still rank as the twin towers of Dutch achievement.

At least with Spain's win we are spared celebrations like this:

Thank you, Spain.

I haven't heard the result. Don't get me wrong. I'm still on the edge of my seat.

To me, soccer provides all the thrills of NBA basketball (yawn).

  3. I think you need to add the "Dutch Treat" meal to the list of accomplishments because it means that I don't have to buy ALL the time.

  4. Even after 2 years in England from 81 to 83 I still could not get into it.

You people are talking about soccer and missing the substantive heart of a probing post -- the odiousness of the Dutch and how the Spaniards have saved us from seeing distant relatives of Van Gogh interviewed for days on end.

Who was that Van der Sloot guy rooting for? End of story.

LL is going to the heart of it. See, even when we bring up "Dutch treat" (loathe the phrase), it is a justification for male cheapness.

  8. Soccer? I thought this was about a dead gay guy with his flamboyant girlfriends?

    I got the point, D.C. And I wish I hadn't. Some things I just can't unsee.
