Recipe for Flying Whale Surprise:
  • 16,000 pounds of rotting whale flesh
  • 1,000 pounds of dynamite
  • Half dozen highway engineers
  • Several score terrified spectators
  • Mix thoroughly
  • Detonate




This occurred on November 12, 1970.
The supervising highway engineer interviewed in this story just died recently at the age of 84.

  1. Now that's funny. Hey, when people complain, men are called, the situation is new, it comes down to trial and error. Often starting with error.

    As for me? I think that is one of the funner errors I have seen. And, given the opportunity, I might just try such an error myself.

    News"men", like women, have nothing better than to complain and get in the way. Right? If they had been right, they would have brought an workable idea to the table, not just watched and then complained. Being "right" doesn't mean pointing out the obvious after the fact.
