Looking at our national debt crisis is like looking at the distances between galaxies. The numbers are so huge that they don't make sense.
So, in order to gain a proper perspective let's remove 8 zeros and pretend that the federal numbers are actually your family's budget. Now the numbers still represent our nation's crisis but at a personal level that we can fully understand and appreciate.
Starting to make a little more sense now...
We are just about to lose everything we own and decide not to have Chinese take out in response.
We are in deep, deep kimchi.
Take another perspective: say you come home and find that the sewer backed up and your house is full of crap right up to the ceilings.
Possible Solutions:
1) Remove the ceilings.
2) Unclog the sewer and remove the crap.

The numbers ain't quite up to snuff as the national debt is now over $16 trillion but everything else is close enough for gubmint work. I wish I could say that this perspective was the product of my own creative juices, but all I did was dress the language up a bit. I saw a similar image posted on a friend's Facebook page (with out a source) and I cannot give proper credit where it is due.
