Sometimes, the irony is deafening

LOS ANGELES - The chickens have come home to roost for Los Angeles city dwellers who keep roosters.

The City Council on Tuesday passed an ordinance that—with few exceptions—allows only one rooster per property. It was spurred by complaints over noise and hygiene and concerns over illegal cockfighting.

Janice Hahn, who authored the bill, says it will give residents of her district some peace and quiet.

Neighborhoods from the harbor to the San Fernando Valley are sometimes annoyed by concerts from crowing roosters. Real estate developer Michael Mekeel says tenants of his Panorama City development have had to turn up their TVs and wear earplugs.

The law takes effect in November and carries fines of up to $250.

Honduras: A Disaster in the Making

Scott Johnson at PowerLine thinks that Zelaya fits in nicely with the world's menagerie of madmen.

Obama backs an insane horse

Meanwhile, in Tegucigalpa, the deposed Honduran president and Chavez wannabe Manuel Zelaya has sneaked into the country and taken up residence at the Brazilian embassy. La Gringa reports that Zelaya's return was accompanied by an outbreak of violence by supporters.

The democratic forces of Honduras oppose Zelaya's restoration to power, but the government of the United States adamantly backs Zelaya. The Obama administration is punishing Honduras for refusing to accede to its dictates and restore Zelaya to power. If this seems nuts, the Obama administration is not alone in its nuttiness.

Zelaya is not only hostile to the United States, he is something of a madman. The Miami Herald reports that Zelaya claims his throat is sore from toxic gases and "Israeli mercenaries'' are torturing him with high-frequency radiation. There's a lot of that going around.

Osama bin Laden famously expounded on the appeal of "the strong horse" in the Arab world. Somehow the Obama administration has chosen to back an insane horse "in the image of Hugo Chavez, Muammar al-Khadaffi and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad."

A Remake of the Madrid Bombings in Germany's Elections?

Erik at No Pasaran speculates that there is an attack in the making. And the United States will be blamed.
The "next strike is very near, a strike that will surprise everyone in its effect, which will be much more shocking than that of 9/11/2001.”
From Ryan Mauro's FrontPage article, we learn that
The German security services are about to be tested…

Western intelligence agencies have been picking up signs of a brewing Al-Qaeda plot against Germany throughout 2009. The German newspaper, Der Spiegel reported in June that U.S. intelligence believed that Al-Qaeda had outsourced the plan to attack Germany to one of its affiliates called Al-Qaeda of the Islamic Maghreb, previously known as the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat, which has been focused primarily on fighting the government of Algeria.
Thanks to Ben Duffy who spent three years in Germany and who adds:
An attack on German soil would totally work too. They'd do whatever the terrorists told them to do after that, and be so damned proud of their sensibility for doing so. I know Germans. They would also blame it on the United States.

Now, let's play a game. Can you find anything that these politicians have in common? No? Look again.

Now, here are some houses in Detroit...

Now, can anybody tell me what kind of progressive zoning, law enforcement, welfare, education, business creation, tax, and economic policies led to the following fact?:

As of August 2009, the AVERAGE home price in Detroit is less than $12,000

Take a good look, America. This will be the United States under the Democrat Party.

Dreams of My Daisy Cutter

Wow, I've been traveling ... doing justice, stamping notary seals and such. I never seem to sleep well away from home. A lot of times I end up falling asleep watching the news and leaving the TV on. Such is life.

Last night, I had a crazy dream. It was actually quite scary; in truth, it was a nightmare. It's been a long time since I woke up with the midnight dew.

But on this occasion, I saw on the TV that dictators were all over New York. Where was the military?! Castro praised our president. The Iranian bomb-thrower-in-chief was allowed to speak. Then our president apologized some more, and he attacked Israeli settlements in the West Bank. Then more lunatics took the podium at the U.N.. I know crazy things have happened through the years at the U.N., but this was surreal. Other countries were walking out. But we just stayed. I couldn't believe it. This couldn't be real. Thank God I was dreaming. It seemed as though it would never end.

The most amazing part was that this lunatic dictator -- who incredibly was a spitting image of a stoned Shemp Howard -- took the podium and began praising our president, calling him "our son" and all. He went on and on. It was scary, and when I woke I was sweating. The TV was on, replaying the night's cable shows. It was all too real.

At least the last one looked like my favorite Stooge of all time.

At times, we have to take solace in small things.

Thank God that was only a dream, though.

Democrats say: Reading the Healthcare bill and the 500 amendments will take too much time!

Dems block GOP demand for more time

Washington Times

Democrats on the Senate Finance Committee on Wednesday turned back a Republican amendment to wait 72 hours and require a full cost estimate before the final committee vote on the health care reform bill.

It was the committee's first vote out of more than 500 amendments awaiting them, in what has already been a contentious mark-up session.

The amendment would have delayed a vote on the final bill for about two weeks to allow the Congressional Budget Office to complete its final analysis on the cost and implications of the legislation.

Arkansas Sen. Blanche Lincoln was the only Democrat to vote with Republicans for the amendment, further signaling that she may be an attractive swing vote for Republicans.

Instead, the panel passed an alternative amendment that would require the committee to post the full bill, in "conceptual" instead of legal language, as well as as a CBO cost estimate.

The UN loves Barack Obama because he is weak

Nile Gardiner of The Telegraph explains Obama's warm UN welcome
"The president scores highly at the UN for refusing to project American values and military might on the world stage, with rare exceptions like the war against the Taliban. His appeasement of Iran, his bullying of Israel, his surrender to Moscow, his call for a nuclear free world, his siding with Marxists in Honduras, his talk of a climate change deal, have all won him plaudits in the large number of UN member states where US foreign policy has traditionally been viewed with contempt."
Simply put, Barack Obama is loved at the UN because he largely fails to advance real American leadership. This is a dangerous strategy of decline that will weaken US power and make her far more vulnerable to attack.

It is not hard to see why a standing ovation awaits Barack Obama when he addresses the United Nations General Assembly today.

Barack Obama’s Gallup approval rating of 52 percent may well be lower at this stage of his presidency than any US leader in recent times with the exception of Bill Clinton. But he is still worshipped with messiah-like adoration at the United Nations, and is considerably more popular with many of the 192 members of the UN than he is with the American people.

The latest Pew Global Attitudes Survey of international confidence in Obama’s leadership on foreign affairs shows strikingly high approval levels for the president in many parts of the world – 94 percent in Kenya, 93 percent in Germany, 88 percent in Canada and Nigeria, 77 percent in India, 76 percent in Brazil, 71 percent in Indonesia, and 62 percent in China for example. The Pew survey of 21 countries reveals an average level of 71 percent support for President Obama, compared to just 17 percent for George W. Bush in 2008.

As the figures indicate, Barack Obama is highly likely to receive a warm reception when he addresses the United Nations General Assembly today, whereas his predecessor in the White House was greeted with undisguised contempt and stony silence.

It is not hard to see why a standing ovation awaits the president at Turtle Bay. Obama’s popularity at the UN boils down essentially to his willingness to downplay American global power. He is the first American president who has made an art form out of apologizing for the United States, which he has done on numerous occasions on foreign soil, from Strasbourg to Cairo. The Obama mantra appears to be – ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do to atone for your country. This is a message that goes down very well in a world that is still seething with anti-Americanism.

It is natural that much of the UN will embrace an American president who declines to offer strong American leadership. A president who engages dictators like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Hugo Chavez will naturally gain respect from the leaders of the more than 100 members of the United Nations who are currently designated as “partly free” or “not free” by respected watchdog Freedom House.

Land of Bones and Ghosts

It's about the size of Texas, and its average annual temperature is like that of Massachusetts. Its capital city is on the same latitude as Los Angeles and Memphis. Humans have been scrambling over, fighting for, and surviving in this place, Afghanistan, for 50,000 years.

In 330 BC, Alexander The Great marched and fought the width of Afghanistan and reached Samarkand through the Khawak Pass. He led his starving army over the 12,000 foot snowy pass and then west, back through the Khyber Pass, on the modern Hippie Trail all the way to Kabul. Today Taliban and tribal fighters use the same passes (there are seven) for the purpose of fighting NATO and American troops. The blood of thousands, maybe millions, of nameless soldiers and unaffiliated warriors has been spilled here since the first Aryans arrived 5000 years ago.

Afghanistan was Hellenized by the Macedonians and their successors, converted to Buddhism by adherents from India, ignored militarily by the Romans, conquered and converted by Muslims, trampled by Genghis Khan and Tamerlane, by Darius and other Persians and Parthians; invaded by Turkic tribes, by the British, the Russians and Americans. Even with constant, low grade warfare, it was also the world's first mobile shopping mall with its web of trade routes called The Silk Road, the commercial paths taken by bearers of luxury goods from the east to the Mediterranean world.

Julius Caesar's silk curtains came through Afghanistan from China, over barren trails prowled today by American Rangers and Special Forces. The Romans believed that silk grew on trees. They never learned differently, because they weren't welcome in Afghanistan, where The Silk Road was controlled by Parthians and Afghan Kushans, or welcome farther to the east, in China.

Among the six countries that share a border with Afghanistan is China. It lies at the end of a 150-mile long, 10-mile wide tendril of rock and valley known as the Wakhan Corridor. Marco Polo came through here 800 years ago to travel this portion of The Silk Road. Today it's the haunt of drug smugglers and the Marco Polo sheep.

The only European connection in Afghanistan is its mountain range, the Hindu Kush, which is a Himalayan extension of the European Alpine system which runs into North Africa. There are, of course, Western "interests" there today. I don't know if they're realistic. I've asked one of my sons, who served there in a combat role, if he thought our mission was do-able. He said "No". The soldier's opinion isn't always on the mark, and he didn't say we should just walk away. But we need a policy that doesn't include indifference.

This Guy is Dangerous!!

Yeah, he's thinking. And he's busy giving three speeches a day, and he's busy appearing on every TV show in sight, and he's busy pushing his discredited Socialized medicine scheme, and he's busy covering up his connections to ACORN and the NEA, and he'd busy accusing his opponents of racism. He just has no time to fight his war in Afghanistan! And our troops, under fire, wait.

Fill 'er Up!!

The
Daily Mail provides yet another example of the lengths to which Royalty will go to assist us all.

Prince Charles converts his beloved Aston Martin to a green machine... run on English wine

It is certainly a vintage vehicle. And now Prince Charles's beloved Aston Martin DB6 is running on vintage too. A nice little white from a vineyard in Wiltshire, to be precise. As part of cutting his carbon footprint, the prince has converted the 38-year-old classic car - a 21st birthday present from the Queen - to run on 100 per cent bioethanol fuel distilled from surplus British wine.

Aides said this was partly due to the pattern of Royal trips set by the Foreign Office. He has now doubled the target to a 25 per cent fall in emissions by 2018. Converting the Aston Martin played a small but symbolic role. The Prince's chief aide Sir Michael Peat said: 'Charles only travelled two or three hundred miles a year in the Aston but he wanted it to be environmentally friendly. It just happened that our bioethanol supplier makes the fuel from surplus English wine.'

The car - which is kept at Highgrove and clocks up just 300 miles a year - averages ten miles a gallon, the equivalent of 4.5 bottles of wine for every mile. At £1.10 a litre, the bioethanol is only slightly cheaper than conventional petrol, but is estimated to produce 85 per cent less carbon dioxide.

The grapes used for Charles's fuel have already been fermented into wine on an English vineyard near Swindon, Wiltshire. Its owners bottle all they can, but cannot produce more than their EU quota. Rather than destroy the excess, the vineyard now sells it to the Gloucestershire biofuels supplier Green Fuels, where it is distilled.

The green prince has also introduced a raft of environmentally-friendly measures at his homes, such as reed bed sewage systems and wood-chip boilers at Highgrove and Birkhall, his Scottish residence. He even tries to have his cows fed on grass rather than grain - to cut their flatulence and minimise their emission of the greenhouse gas methane.

Why Blogs Matter

"History is the propaganda of the victors" - Ernst Toller (1893-1939)

Hardly anyone knows who Ernst Toller was. He was a German playwright, born into that catastrophic European epoch that stretched from the end of the 19th-century until the beginning of the Second European War. He was at Verdun; then later ran afoul of the Nazis, was exiled from Germany and exhausted himself in depression and radical politics. He ended in suicide by hanging himself in an American hotel room.

Toller's aphorism about history is his monument, but it's not a statement of fact anymore, especially in the digital age. Toller had "official" history in mind, the narrative shaped and delivered by the dominant political and social classes. Their record is a tale, a story designed to manipulate the facts of the present for some goal in the future (like what NBC and the New York Times still do in order to advance leftism). In Toller's Europe, this was broadly true, and it was true across the globe until about ten years ago. It isn't anymore.

Today, servile media hacks like David Gregory, Tom Brokaw, Tom Friedman; Bill Moyers and others still think they're living in Toller's world. Sniffing around the "facts" for the causes and effects that support their preconceptions, in their Olympian vanity they demand the first and last word. (A simpleton like Chris Matthews can even compare himself to Thomas Paine without real doubt about his sanity.)

This line of inquiry states that the final facts are discernible in an age of organized lying, that the truth specialist will discover them and let you know what matters to you. It's a rancid version of rationalism - the conceit that information must be milled by the intellecual so the raw ingredients are digestible to the rabble. That's why they hate the bloggers. We don't need them to cook up a conclusion.

Their confusion and fear is what you'd see if a guild of scribes was shown a printing press and the codex format for bound books. The same maw of obsolescence is yawning wide and hungry for the established print media. For that reason alone blogs matter - to launch the future and break the grip of the reactionary media zombies on the facts and events that matter to us rather than them. Their day is over.

Blogging is a brawl, cultural populism at its most exciting. You punch to exhaustion and some kind of validity emerges when it's over; even when the villain wins you saw how dirty he fought. It's American, it's anti-social, it's red-blooded, and the conservative blogs are the bane of the skinny-assed statist dork in The White House. We're the victors. Do you need another reason?

Learn the truth about America's 'Uninsured'

Obama's lips are moving...

Therefore he's lying. I know, it's an old joke. But he sat down with Stephanopolous, who temporarily pretended to be a journalist. George asked him about ACORN, and ACORN funding. Seems that Barry might have "heard" about ACORN, but it just isn't important.

STEPHANOPOULOS: How about the funding for ACORN?
OBAMA: You know, if — frankly, it’s not really something I’ve followed closely. I didn’t even know that ACORN was getting a whole lot of federal money.
STEPHANOPOULOS: Both the Senate and the House have voted to cut it off.
OBAMA: You know, what I know is, is that what I saw on that video was certainly inappropriate and deserves to be investigated.
STEPHANOPOULOS: So you’re not committing to — to cut off the federal funding?
OBAMA: George, this is not the biggest issue facing the country. It’s not something I’m paying a lot of attention to.

"It's not something I'm paying a lot of attention to" is the position his hacks are also taking at the New York Times.

Obama - 'I think I could use a newspaper industry'

RedState.com thinks that President Obama may have cought some kind of Citizen Kane flu!

The cure for sinking poll numbers - more lollipops! And my very own newspapers!

If you get your news primarily from the typical newspapers and alphabet-soup TV networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, et al) then:

  • Van Jones must be some kind of NBA center or NFL lineman, just like Johnny Malibu, Truck Johnson, or Tractor Traylor.
  • The words ACORN, hidden cameras, underage prostitution, and tax cheating are not especially related to each other
  • Republicans are racists because they oppose health care for poor people.
  • People who protest are racists.
  • But that didn’t become true until this January.
  • Democrats could get more done if those 40 Senators and 178 House Republicans would quit blocking everything.
  • You hear the word teabagger in your dreams, and are unaware of a site called urbandictionary.com
  • Honduras overthrew their president in a coup, but Obama is standing up to them.
  • Hugo Chavez is misunderstood.
  • All the world’s thugs and dictators are now learning to appreciate how warm and fuzzy America is, and at any moment are about to break into Kum-Ba-Ya and will probably wish us Happy Winter Observance around mid-late December.
  • America sucks, but Obama is changing that by apologizing to everybody, and fixing all the broken stuff like the banking industry, the auto industry, the health industry…and anything else he can get his hands on.

And because you are so well-informed, the government would like to make it so you are always that well-informed.

Conservatives have long known that the Democrats would love an excuse to subsidize the collapsing left-partisan newspaper industry. Readership has been dropping steadily for years, thanks to a relentlessly bitter left-wing news slant and the growing availability of alternate news sources. I realize the ‘falling ad revenue due to everything moving to the web’ argument gets used alot, but I tell you, I don’t see the Washington Examiner, New York Post, and the Wall Street Journal yipping about declining revenues.

If you get my drift.

One of the remarkable things about this collapse of the bird-cage-lining industry is that in spite of readership vaporizing, and in spite of some pretty substantial evidence that their leftist political pitch is at least a factor, they refuse to moderate their tone. The decline in the evening news viewers on ABC, NBC, and CBS over a 10-year span is AWESOME BABY rather drastic, and the corresponding numbers at FoxNews has risen to the point where they border on competitive with the broadcast networks.

Ideology may not be the whole reason but it is undeniably a part of it. Whether you think the Examiner and FoxNews are right-biased or now, it is a FACT that conservative viewers and readers can no longer tolerate the stench issuing from the NY Times, WaPo, CBS, and friends.

So the industry will not change in order to be profitable. And now Democrats are proposing to “subsidize” — aka take over — the industry, and Obama has expressed that he’s “open” to it. That is code for “it was his ideal”. We already have Government Banking and Government Motors. Now we can have the Government Press.

I bet that will result in a better product and more fair political representation.

Especially during election season.

WE WANT BUSINESS! - WE WANT JOBS!

Hans Brinker and the People Who Want Him Dead

Who is Crazy in Holland Today?

The former Soviet Union used to send dissidents to psychiatric wards and treat them for the mental disease of not seeing the benefits of communism. In Europe, we have not gone so far (yet) that people who do not see the benefits of the multicultural society are treated as lunatics. They are merely considered to be “fascists” or “racists.” Nevertheless, some intellectuals on the left truly seem unable to understand how anyone who is right in the head can be “right” in the head.

This explains why many leftist Dutch are so puzzled by Geert Wilders. While they can understand that the blue-collar lower classes oppose immigrants – because they are unsophisticated and dumb – they find it hard to understand why a seemingly intelligent man like Geert Wilders is fighting the Islamization of his home country.

Last week, an article by the cultural anthropologist Lizzy van Leeuwen in the leftist weekly De Groene Amsterdammer (“The Green Amsterdammer”) caused a stir. She explains Wilders’s “rabid anti-immigration and anti-Islam ideas” as stemming from his ethnic mix. The article is considered to be “an intellectual attempt to analyze what drives Wilders.” According to Mrs. van Leeuwen his statements – plus the fact that he dies his hair peroxide blond – are connected to his genealogical link to Indonesia, the largest Islamic country in the world.

Of Barack Obama it is said that his worldview has been influenced by his childhood years in Indonesia, the former Dutch colony that is also said to have shaped Geert Wilders’s worldview. Van Leeuwen reveals that Wilders’s maternal grandmother, Johanna Meijer, was a member of a prominent Jewish-Indonesian family. Her husband, Johan Ording, was a regional financial administrator in the Dutch colony. According to van Leeuwen, the latter was fired while on leave in the Netherlands and reduced to poverty when the government refused to give him a pension. Van Leeuwen says that Wilders is out to avenge the injustice done to his granddad.

The Indonesian colonial background of his grandfather is also said to explain Wilders’s “far-right” opinions. She claims that in the 1930s many colonial administrators sympathized with the Dutch Nazi party NSB. After the independence of Indonesia in 1949, they were forced to leave for the Netherlands. This frustrating experience led to their attachment to patriotism and European values. Moreover, they harbored strong sentiments against Islam, the dominant religion in Indonesia. In Wilders’s case, his anti-Islamic and pro-Israeli feelings were exacerbated by the Jewish origin of his grandmother.

Van Leeuwen’s revelations – if true, because Wilders has not responded to them and keeps his private life absolutely private – do not explain, however, how Wilders’s father can have harbored sympathies for the anti-Semitic NSB while being married to a Jewish wife. That accusation makes her thesis highly unlikely, if not ridiculous.

It is astonishing, however, that leftist intellectuals in Europe no longer see a contradiction between Nazism and pro-Jewish positions. Indeed, Israel is consistently depicted by the European left as a racist Nazi-like state. Meanwhile, the Dutch media criticize Wilders for not disclosing his genealogy. “Wilders hides his family roots,” a major (center-right) Dutch newspaper headlined.
