It's All About Liberty

As I write these few lines I am struck by the thought that there is no one telling me that I can't say what I want to say. There is no fear of uniformed men breaking down my door because I happen to disagree with my government. Yet.

Christ died on the cross in order that we can be free from the penalties of our sin. Patriots died at Lexington and Concord and Valley Forge so that we can be free from the ravages of capricious government. No, I am not equating the actions of our Revolutionary heroes with those of our Lord though the enabling concept is the same. We believe in Christ for our soul liberty and in the Constitution for all others. The latter exists only because of our position in the former.

So let us enjoy all our freedoms, they are ever so precious and bought at such great sacrifice.

Good luck and God Bless you, America. Given the circumstances 235 yrs ago I'd have been right there with the Founding Fathers.

And I'll leave you with a quote from our dear Lord Nelson (still sadly missed):

"Firstly you must always implicitly obey orders, without attempting to form any opinion of your own regarding their propriety. Secondly, you must consider every man your enemy who speaks ill of your king; and thirdly you must hate a Frenchman as you hate the devil".

Seemed reasonable to me.

Happy Birthday America - and yes, I agree with you that the 'new birth of freedom' as Lincoln called it, was a remarkable thing. And it still is.

I hope you have some plans. Even a little dinner, grilling or otherwise. It is a day very worth celebrating.

Chris - and may our children and grand children continue to celebrate this day as we know it.

Hogday - I may just get that quote as a tattoo. Was it he who said "Damn the frenchmen and full speed ahead" at the Battle of the Baguette??

Doom - I broke my butt today digging a drainage ditch and laying in pipe. At my age that was like digging the Panama Canal. I'll feel it tomorrow. The wife just wants to relax tonight and so do I. Have a very happy Fourth!

LL - What happened in 1776 was unparalled in history. As Ben Franklin said, let's hope we can keep it.
