Hank Williams Jr. made a remark on Fox News this morning and because of what he opined, his opening musical segment to ESPN's "Monday Night Football" has been pulled from the program. From Politico:
Hank Williams Jr., the voice famous asking millions of football fans whether they’re ready for some football, has been pulled from tonight’s broadcast of “Monday Night Football” over a comment he made on Fox News this morning.There are no 1st Amendment issues here; ESPN can do as it pleases for a contracted service, which most likely is the fiscal arrangement that Hank Williams Jr. enjoys with ESPN.
Williams, who sings the lead-in song to the game each week, criticized the president for his golf summit with House Speaker John Boehner this summer.
“It would be like Hitler playing golf with (Israeli leader) Benjamin Netanyahu,” Williams told “Fox & Friends.”
USA Today, among others, picked up the quote, speculating on whether the comparison would get Williams booted from the broadcast.
This afternoon, ESPN released a statement to the affirmative:
“While Hank Williams, Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize that he is closely linked to our company through the open to Monday Night Football. We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result we have decided to pull the open from tonight’s telecast.”
However, with all the BusHitler comments flying through the media for eight straight years, it sure seems funny when a liberal media outlet decides to drop the hammer because it finds some speech offense and not others which are more offensive to potential viewers.

The ESPN comments section is going nuts over this. The moderator is yanking comments like a madman, comments that are even alittle critical of ESPN. No profanity necessary; just mention that people should go to Fox to watch sports and you're gone.

I don't follow sports anyway, so I'd never have known if you hadn't told me. However, just to show my support of Hank's right to free speech, I hereby promise never to START watching ESPN!

Yea, what you all have said. I wont start watching ESPN; and I gave up on sports a long time ago--Oh, I missed the wardrobe malfunction too.

As with other good starts-most everyone will buy something to offset this good will emotion of a boycott, fizzel fizzel out.

Again, gobsmacked by the hypocrisy here. For the better part of a decade, ABC has allowed those shrieking harridans on the Spew (oops.. View) to launch their daily Hitler as bush/Republicans as National Socialists meme without so much as a peep of displeasure. Too, Bocephus did't "call" BHO hitler, he used a simple analogy.

I shall not watch Monday Night Football. Of course, I don't watch it anyway - but that's neither here nor there.
Well, two advertisers are Verizon and McDonalds. If we want to make a difference, we'll have to go after the money (that's what the progressive loons do to great effect).

Odie - I was about to watch the game when I read about Hank's cancellation. I am no fan of the MNF crew and much prefer SNF. I truly miss John Maddon.

FuzzyS - I looked for about a half hour trying to get a list of MNF advertisers but did not meet with success. I guess I could have watched the show to see who advertised but that would have been defeating the purpose, no? I'm a little ocnfused on that issue...
Well, this one is just too damn easy, since I have zero use or interest in supporting professional sports, the NFL and MLB in extreme particular.
