The Hornet's Nest

There is a movie coming out this Spring about the war in Afghanistan.
There are no actors, only soldiers.
It's the real deal.

It was a long war because Pakistan, our ally, managed the Taliban the same way they did when they organized the talib (students) in the Madrassas in the Northwest Border Province in the 90's into what the Taliban became.

A lot of Americans died for bullshit.

We do that a lot because of a lack of political will and insight at the highest levels. It was true of Vietnam, clearly true in Iraq as well.

Most profoundly sad to me.

Strange how all the war protesters suddenly vanished.

Vietnam was, for some reason, a SEATO matter. These mid-east rat holes don't - as far as I know - have treaties with us.

LL - sad, but no surprise. Soldiers always die for the mistakes of their political leaders. Then they stab them in the back when they're no longer needed.

Sunnybrook - do ya miss 'em? They'll be back as soon as a Republican is back in the White House.

WoFat - "Treaties? Treaties? We don't got to show you no steeking treaties!"

Our son-in-law is there right now - his second tour in Afghanistan (1 in Iraq). He has yet to meet his daughter. I don't know if I can watch this yet. I don't even know what to think of it right now.
