The difference between our heroes and theirs? Ours really do choose it, and over a relatively easy life in the civilian world. Don't forget police, sheriff, and other leo and security folks. A lot of people put it on the line.
Oh, I might fuss about this and that. The systems might be a problem, at times. But most individuals do their best. More so at the street and meet and greet levels (minus pr *cough*).
