We got home from the hospital this afternoon... exhausted. Yesterday (Monday) I had to undergo a hastily scheduled surgery on my replacement shoulder after my surgeon thought there could be an infection. And there was.
The original 8" incision had to be cut open again and the infected tissue removed. By the grace of God the infection did not get into the metal joint as it would have necessitated the complete removal of the new joint, the insertion of a "spacer"and a six week regime of IV administered antibiotics. My wife, bless her, stayed with me through a sleepless night. There were some other complications but things got sorted out and I was finally able to be discharged with prescriptions for oral antibiotics and painkillers.
So I am back in a sling and unable to drive again for about 10 days but I am very happy with that given the alternatives.
Still, all in all, it's been a rough four months...

I am so very, very sorry Sig. A nice guy like you doesn't deserve to suffer. Knowing you did not require a replacement shoulder is a blessing. Take care of yourself. We're all praying this ends the "Six Million Dollar Man" fiasco. Get well soon, buddy.
May God heal you quickly and bless you all.
Gratitude is the right reaction. Be well soon!
I'm thankful with you that it wasn't any worse. It's amazing what the Dr's can do, and even better that we have a God that made our bodies with the ability to let us know when something is wrong. Bless you, and may you have a quick recovery!
So sorry you had a tough time, but glad you are back. Keep ona trucking.
I am praying for you, Sig. And family. If it makes you feel better your case makes me feel better about mine. Not sure which is worse, I just know I am not alone. Wouldn't wish it on you though. Stick with it. For good or ill, your prognosis is definitely better. :p
Thank you all. It is healing a lot faster this time around and with the infection gone I have a lot less discomfort and more mobility in the joint. The stitches come out Thursday.
