All passengers departing for The Brave New World, please proceed to Platform 51.

YWCA drops the word
'Christian'
from its historic name
to call itself Platform 51

The Daily Mail

(London) One of the country’s best-known charities has changed its name, losing the clearest link to its Christian roots. The Young Women’s Christian Association has dropped its historic title after 156 years because ‘it no longer stands for who we are’.

Instead the organisation – which is mainly funded by legacies left by Christian supporters over 15 decades – will be known as ‘Platform 51’.

Bosses say the name was chosen to reflect the fact that 51 per cent of people are female and that they can use the charity as a platform ‘to have their say’ and ‘to move to the next stage of their lives’. The decision to drop all mention of Christianity from the charity’s name and purposes drew criticism from religious groups yesterday.

It also appeared to open a rift between the renamed grouping in England and Wales and the worldwide YWCA that grew after the charity was founded by two Englishwomen in 1855.
Officials at the World YWCA headquarters in Geneva said none of the 124 branches in other countries are changing their names.

Spokesman Sylvie Jacquat said: ‘The name has been there for more than 150 years and we are not even discussing a change. We see our name as an opportunity for promoting Christian values and principles.’

The YWCA is the latest in a series of charities that have tried to update their image, sometimes in the hope of getting more money from the Government.

How pathetic.

How such a few can create so much damage. The left. Why do people want to destroy and control other people? This seems to be their only mission, and they make headway. Sad M

Some times you just have to wonder about what people are trying to do... If it weren't for those Christians and their $$, they wouldn't exist...

And weren't we just talking about PC over at Opie's place?

yup. Ichabod (the glory has departed) is the watchword for Europe and the UK. Europe/UK hasn't had a Christian worldview for a century or two, so it's not like they ever inculcated or infused the name into their daily lives anyway. regardless, the Continent is a post post-modern culture, built upon legal positivism that sometimes works, but mostly is a vapid vacuum where very soon (nod to Mark Steyn ala "America Alone)) it will ingest or aspirate a nasty Islamic culture of Sharia to take hold. The UK is not far behind.

‘Our original name no longer stood for who we are or what we do and people often confused us with another charity.’

Then they should have used the name "Lame Bitches Looking for Government Handouts"

Smythe... It's certainly not something I wanted to read with my morning power shake and box of donuts.

Con-Op... Their license comes from some self-esteem overdose creating the belief that, as a ne'er-do-well superheroes, their secret power is the ability to govern and insult other people's lives.

NFO... If it weren't for Christians, the mussies would have beheaded or stoned them by now.

Woody... What happens at Opie's place stays at Opie's place.

Jg... My only disagreement is that the UK seems to be leading the parade (or death march).

Martok... If a Dem gets shot today, your hate speech in that comment will have been the cause.

The name change was a formality. Their social agenda and faith had already changed, years ago, and they're coming out of the closet, so to speak.

Ann Coulter devised an interesting principle, which actually seems like a law, to me. If an organization isn't specifically conservative, it will dr.ift inevitably to the left. Thus, Platform 51

Britain can't be saved. Spritual and ideological impoverishment always invites something more certain and energetic to take over and fill the void.

this does not surprise me- the Christian churches were all but empty in England 20 + years ago when we visited...
no leadership then-no leadership now--
thanks for the heads up though!
looking for it to happen here in the US...

Rhod, I agree that the UK is doomed. The news updates are simply the play-by-play.

Might as well get used to it, the gay agenda is getting rammed down our throats - oops - accidental mental picture there - sorry 'bout that. We will have queers and lesbos fornicating on trains, airplanes, corporate lunchrooms and bus stop benches. We'll see transmorgrified males that will shock us to our very marrow. The perverts of Sodom and Gomorrah did not have the technology to really freak straight people out. Lot would have run screaming from the gates and thrown himself off a cliff. His wife would have looked back and turned into a pillar of sex DVD's. America's national flower will be a yeast infection.
By the Grace of God there may be some a major revival or two to give some kind of a holding action, but the world is being prepared for the Anti-Christ. Our place is not here - we're just passing through.

All about the money.

Sig... Never mention yeast infections on this blog. My second wife, Tiffany, was married for three years to the Pillsbury Doughboy. Through our entire marriage she was never able to shake that yeast infection.

Nickie Goomba said...

Woman... You, me and Siggie agree on the reaping!

Nickie Goomba said...

Kid, I'm guessing it's more than money. It's also embarrassment of Christianity.

In this day and age where people strive with such diligence to excise Christ from everything, I'm not surprised... but I am disappointed in them.

My city used to have a YWCA housing block that is now run by Social Services; I expect that "platform 51" got quite a lot of cash from its sale.
Our YMCA building survives however.

As a commenter on your link suggests, the charitable status of "platform 51" (which gives tax exemption) needs looking at, as do the founding documents to examine whether it has been hijacked by 'trustees' who are in violation of its founders intentions.
