Nuclear Samurai

There are qualities that ordinary people display during moments of crisis that they never knew they had. People rise to the occasion in ways that amaze us. But to walk into a busted reactor nuclear time after time is hard to fathom. My hat's off to these men and my heart goes out to their families.
Workers at the disaster-stricken Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan say they expect to die from radiation sickness as a result of their efforts to bring the reactors under control, the mother of one of the men tells Fox News.

The so-called Fukushima 50, the team of brave plant workers struggling to prevent a meltdown to four reactors critically damaged by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, are being repeatedly exposed to dangerously high radioactive levels as they attempt to bring vital cooling systems back online.

Speaking tearfully through an interpreter by phone, the mother of a 32-year-old worker said: “My son and his colleagues have discussed it at length and they have committed themselves to die if necessary to save the nation. “He told me they have accepted they will all probably die from radiation sickness in the short term or cancer in the long-term.”

Read that today. Very sad.

Heroes though that should be honored and memorialized in a special way in Japan.

I can't imagine anyone being willing to do that. Heroes for sure...

Can you imagine the mixture of pride and horror experienced by the families?

They are the true definition of heros, and a true example of the quote, "All for one and one for All". "Unus pro omnibus, omnes pro uno" is the Latin phrase that it originated from.

I guess Anonymous had to go out of his way to be stupid.

I'm taken 'aback as I read this yesterday. In an age when we're overun with self-serving me-monkeys, this type of nobility is a rare experience.

Don't worry about anon, I'm sure its just the Four-Loco talking.

Kid - I imagine there will be. If not, let's remind them, eh?

Deborah - thanking for stopping by. It is always a source of wonderment and admiration for us to see self sacrifice in action. It brings to mind John 15:13

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

Nickie - to be honest, no, I can't. And to tell the truth, I hope to avoid the experience. Dear Lord give them strength.

Shady - I bet they think they are just doing their jobs.

Odie - as long as the drive-by knuckleheads don't get too nasty I will let them hang themselves with their own words.

I like to think that it's similar to the old English custom of hanging the corpses of highwaymen from iron bands for all to see. A dumbass memorial.

Anon - thank you for displaying your profound ignorance. Now just hush up and rot slowly and quietly please.

Not to quibble anon, but your permanent suspension from third grade for chronic mole face is showing. You never learned the difference between "fewer" and "less".

Once again Rhod applies the ruler across an asshat's knuckles.

Odie - this is why we let anon and his ignorant ilk unzip their knickers in the front yard.
