Glen Campbell Diagnosis: Alzheimers

The 1968 hit, "Wichita Lineman," has been one of my favorite songs for decades. Glen campbell has had his ups and downs over the years and now unfortunately he won't be singing this much longer. From USA Today:

The country singer/actor, 75, and his wife, Kim, tell People magazine that Campbell has Alzheimer's disease.

They have decided to go public with Campbell's health news diagnosis because he's hoping to say farewell with a final slate of live performances this fall – and they want his fans to be aware of the musician's condition, reports People.

"Glen is still an awesome guitar player and singer," says Kim. "But if he flubs a lyric or gets confused on stage, I wouldn't want people to think, 'What's the matter with him? Is he drunk?' "
No matter what you think of him, this is a terrible thing to happen to anyone. I will always remember the plantive song of the lineman.

Nothing to add Sig, other than 'By the Time I Get to Phoenix' was also a great tune.

Kid - just a pity. We all got to go, I just hope it's not like that.

This is really sad news.

Terrible disease, not only for the patient, but for the family. I give him credit for doing the live performances and I wish he and his family the best.

Undeground - Those songs take us back.

Supi - indeed. It always comes as a surprise when someone you haven't heard of in a while pops up with bad news. Then you think, "He's that old?" and then you think *gulp* "I'm not that far behind him."

CL - my wife lost two of her close relatives with that disease. It's a terrible, terrible wasting away. It's like watching their personalities dissolve in front of your eyes.

A sad way to exit the stage. That disease seems like Death by installments. Hard to pick a favorite as the heavy ones like Galveston were as enjoyable as the light/carefree ones like Southern Nights.

Andy - It's always sad when a popular entertainer makes his final appearance. Perhaps it reminds us of our own temporary residence on this ol' sod.
