Things To Come

By all appearances, it really does appear that everything is going to hell in a handbasket. Riots, economic doom and ruin and military set backs scream at us from the headlines and blogs. I have never witnessed such times in my sixty plus years.

This truly is similar to when WWII was building up a head of steam in the late thirties. And I imagine it will only get worse. Many people thought Hitler was the antichrist and probably some think Obama is. Whatever you may think, these events are God's way of reminding us that there is no safety or security outside of Him.

History is replete with examples of stormy passages with fleeting periods of calm in between. This is no different as we enter the end times. We see the signs of growing moral turpitude and the indifference of so called churches to sin, particularly homesexuality. Even the growing numbers of vegans is nothing but a signal that time for mankind is growing short.

II Timothy 3:1-5,7 "But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of god; holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth."

I Timothy 4:1-3 "But the spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons. By means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron, men who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth."
Sometimes I am troubled by the turmoil that grows stronger every day and enraged by the incompetence and venality of our government. But yet, I am comforted by the realization that all of this has been foretold and there is nothing that can defeat the will and intent of God.

Christ, not the US government, is my Savior. Obama, Soros and the all the forces of Hell cannot triumph.

They might make you feel better as the ship goes down, but your superstitions won't save you.

Anon - the OT and NT have 4500 years of oral and written spiritual insight that have guided and secured countless billions as they made their way into eternity.

You in the other hand? You have kowabunga as you careen though life bouncing from one crisis to another relying on .... what? Evolution? Market forces? Unseen forces of chaos? The gubmint? Your eighth grade biology teacher? What is your basis for understanding the world as we see it and trying to make sense of things?

We all have a world view. It is the googles that we wear when we gaze outward from ourselves. Your googles are more like blinders.

Thank-You this is the moral boost I have been needing.

"the OT and NT have 4500 years of oral and written spiritual insight that have guided and secured countless billions as they made their way into eternity. "

Except you can't prove that after they died they really did enter into heaven, let alone your particular vision of heaven. What you say is also applicable to Hinduism and Buddhism, whose religious texts date back to 5000 BC and 500 BC respectively, and which also "guided" billions.

Some of us don't need the perceived guidance of an invisible sky wizard to know that killing and stealing are wrong, and that life is better when you treat each other as you want to be treated. It's called common sense. You can keep your religious crutches, thanks but no thanks.

Yup, that was exactly the word I was searching for to describe your poorly crafted logic... "common".

Speaking of "poorly crafted logic", a mildly clever pun might make a good retort at a cocktail party or on the playground, but it doesn't actually prove any logical point.

Anon - then where do you get the perceived notion that killing and stealing are wrong? And who are you to impose that standard on others?

You have taken advantage of the Judeo-Christian ethic for so long and are blind to it. It has protected and nurtured you for your entire life and you are completely ignorant of it.

The words of Jesus ring true in Matthew 13:13 "Therefore I speak to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand."

No words in this or any other blog blog will afford you sight and concomitant understanding. That is a gift from God.

If the notion that killing and stealing are wrong is a divinely created concept then it implies that Hinduism and Buddhism are also divinely inspired, since they have the same prohibitions; the Judeo-Christian religious lineage doesn't have a monopoly on that morality. You can't reasonably claim that Buddhists and Hindus who have lived for centuries in the far east are taking advantage of the Judeo-Christian ethic they've never encountered. So, either morality is an innately human thing, that all people share regardless of belief, or all religions that have these similar moral prohibitions are valid expressions of spirituality.
