Flood Insurance - The Old Fashioned Way

Dutch carpenter builds full-scale replica of Noah's Ark… and he plans to sail it up the Thames for the Olympics

From the UK Daily Mail:
A Dutch creationist is putting the finishing touches on a full-size replica of Noah's Ark, which he has built according to a blueprint set out in the Bible.

Johan Huibers spent three years and more than £1.03 million constructing the gigantic wooden boat - and now has his sights set on sailing it up the Thames for the Olympics.

This feat of true biblical proportions was inspired by a dream Mr Huibers had 20 years ago, in which he saw part of his native Netherlands submerged in a flood like the one featured in the Book of Genesis.
It is made of Swedish pine, it's 450 feet long and weighs three thousand tons.

Can't wait to see it. Will the multiculturalists let it happen?

You've got to wonder if the eco nuts will condemn it because he used all that Swedish pine.....

Oh, but the OARS! :p

I think that is one of the coolest, if in a way too most foolish, things I have ever seen. Over a million pounds (money) on that? Way too cool, though too. Well, it could become a museum, or even traveling museum, so many that makes economic sense (most museums cost much more, with modern code, to build). So, there is that. I really want to see the insides. Can you just imagine the work? And then, the work before there were wood mills? I bet he knows his way around tools and wood now!

Sorry about being a bit of a wet blanket, it's just such a novel thing (and I just woke up... to an Ark!) Heh

Can't help but to think of the original when the two cats were leaving the ARK followed by a litter of kittens and the one cat looked up at Noah and said "thought we were fighting, didn't you"...

You've got to remember - there were a lot fewer people at the time of the Flood, and no javelin toss.

Its time to Gold-plate this guy's mancard! Well done.

Odie - Hey, it's just a boat, right? Or a barge.

Mark - is that an endangered pine?

Doom - the guy built a huge barge, it has to be towed. I'd love to see it but I rather doubt it will make it's way across the Atlantic. IIRC, no watercraft larger than the Ark was built until the 1880's.

BA American - the neighbor's cats sure sounded like that last week!

WoFat - given the extended life span of humans during the pre-Flood era (over 800 years), some have estimated that there were between 1.5 and 2 billion people living at the time of the deluge.

Andy - maybe even a platinum mancard?
