In Like A Nutcase

Relax! It's only April....

The old adage, "March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb," is not operative when you live in the snow belt in Upstate New York. March was out like a disgruntled Black Friday shopper and April came in like a nutcase.

Yesterday after work we took our daughter back to college, a two hour drive downstate. It felt like winter was clawing at us all the way there and back. Bands of snow, sleet, rain, hail and high winds would alternate with partly sunny skies as we drove. Today is the same. Psycho weather. Anthony Perkins in the clouds.

Someone is a bit unhappily jazzed about the weather? :p That reminds me a lot of the weather in Iowa, and way to often. Although I bet you all get it for longer. It's usually much milder where I live now and I'll take it.

Glad you made the trip without any incidences though. White knuckling it is no fun. I swear it takes years off your life, at least when you aren't in the mood for it. Uhrm, and assuming you survive it in order to die younger. At least your state is an outdoors-man's dream, if you could just control your politicians.

soooo tired of guys complaining about global warming. al gore told us that it was going to be hot as hell and it.....well, forget about that. and start worrying about the polar bears who are going to take up residence on the back deck.

Doom - Yep, Winter driving is something you just get get used to. I am used to it, and sick of it after five months. It was the same thing this morning.

I remember getting 4" of sloppy, wet snow in May one year, about 1995, right on Mother's Day. My wife took it personal.

jay son - they're already here. At least the black bears are. They are coming closer and closer to the towns for some reason. I'm wondering if there are environmental reasons or if it is just the easy garbage can pickins that attract them.

Back about five years ago they tranq shot one about a half mile from our house. It was treed and when it hit the ground it broke it's neck. This was the second time this particular bear had to be tranqed and removed.

Not only that, but the day before we got 8.3" of snow. We broke the April record for the most snow in one day. Yes! Yes!

I could cry.
