Apparently the ship's crew lost their bearings.

Whatever the case, thinking that they were driving on to a beach belonging to a naval base, they decided to make beach goers skeedaddle by driving their 550 ton hovercraft right up on shore. They'll move...
According to witnesses, the naval base is actually some distance away and this beach is frequently populated with sun-seeking civilians. Allegedly the base was in Khmelevka, several miles from the beach in Mechnikovo, near Kaliningrad on the Baltic Sea.
This is not a wee little boat. It carries 400 men plus lots of
