I just received notification that one of our few remaining retired cops that served in WWII has passed away.
Henry Joseph Zajac, 91, of Liverpool passed away peacefully on Thursday. Born in Syracuse he was a graduate of Vocational High School and a WWII Navy Veteran serving in the South Pacific.Another retiree recollected one of Hank's comments when he arrested a mouthy Asian defendant:
"Shut up! I shot your father out of a tree on Guadalcanal and I'll do the same to you!"There's no school like the old school.

I remember that my Dad and all of his friends were WWII Vets. All of them, that I remember, are gone now. It was difficult, watching them fade away.
WoFat - our country is weaker for their passing.
May his memory be eternal.
My father-in-law is 92, hale and hearty, but we know that can't last forever. He is beginning to get "lonely" with the passing of friends and companions. I have spent time with him digitalizing all his old photos from the 40's in England and Europe and identifying people and places. Absolutely amazing.
Thank You Hank!
Anam - we all honor his service, his and his generation. Cherish those photos for that'll be the only way you grandkids will know him. Two of my kids were too young to remember my Dad. Photos and my stories are the only thing they got.
Odie - always a pleasure to hear from you.
Sorry to say that I don't have much respect for cops as a group, but I think I would have liked that one.
Love it Sig.
