MMA And The USMC

Five MMA fighters visited the US Marine Corps' Martial Arts Program (MCMAP). The MCMAP
... is a combat system developed by the United States Marine Corps to combine existing and new hand-to-hand and close quarters combat (CQC) techniques with morale and team-building functions and instruction in the Warrior Ethos. The program, which began in 2001, trains Marines (and U.S. Navy personnel attached to Marine units) in unarmed combat, edged weapons, weapons of opportunity, and rifle and bayonet techniques. It also stresses mental and character development, including the responsible use of force, leadership, and teamwork.

The following three video clips are each about six minutes long and provide a glimpse of the strenuous training our Marines receive through the eyes of professional martial arts fighters.

Here, here, and here.

I wish more athletes would go to such. They would stop thinking they are warriors.

I did enjoy the vids. Wish I could keep up with these "kids". Glad to see they have improved the training regimens too. Used to have to almost roll your own. But I thought it was funny that they were being so nice to these guys. Just a trick. If they had signed on the line, all nice goes away, until/unless they graduate from the course. Maybe not even then. I actually miss that.

Told mine, once I got out of the service, I would only stand in one line, ever again, voluntarily. (After graduation, mind you.) He asked what that was, and I said the line to kick his ass. :) But, yeah, we got along quite well.

Yeah, these Marines are all way too friendly for the camera. Wouldn't want to muss up them pretty MMA faces and hair.

The Marines are young and tough and train every day. It's good to see them humble the MMA masters.

Doom - heh, glad to hear you've avoided lines all these years.

Euripides - what's the warrior motto? Be polite and courteous to everyone and be prepared to kill anyone?

LL - I was surprised to see the MMA go down so quickly. I don't follow the UFC or MMA - were these guys supposed to be really good?

It's the polite ones who are the most dangerous.
