The Colt .45 has new life.

Like everything else in today’s complex military establishment, the new gun has a designation. It is the M45A1 Close Quarters Battle Pistol (CQBP). Several makers submitted their versions of the gun, which were built to specifications developed by the Marine Corps. It was Colt’s Mfg. Co. that won the right to build 4,036 pistols and spare parts. Interestingly, the contract is written to be extendable in both numbers and time. There may turn out to be as many as 12,000 M45 pistols.

Many in the SEAL teams never stopped using it, even though the H&K Offensive Handgun and a number of other fine handguns were available in .45 ACP.
Good review. now I need to go out and get a 1911.
The SEALs, and others, are and have always been allowed to pick and choose their poison. Whether some suit says so or not. Not momma's boys. And there is a reason they chose .45's. Though, for my ways, the 1911 is not only not necessary, it is a... bit dated. I'm surprised, if they aren't doing more cq action, that they haven't moved to the Springfield XD. With a very slight, diy, mod (not a gunsmith here, mind you, but did it myself), I can have 16 in the mag, 1 in the tube. Beautiful. Still, that might be a bit too far. It might have to be a .mil item, though I have it on good authority that it used to not be that way, not entirely. Think... six mags will do you easily, plus no reloads, just mags. Yeah...
Still, let the kids play as they wish these days. I just love they have have kept the caliber, if I have moved on from that particular platform myself. All good, damned kids. :)
Doom. Springfield XD. Hell yea. Love the safety system - grip it and rip it.
But as far as I know the Colt goes for around 2k. You can get a hell of a Kimber 45 for 1k...
I hope Colt has solved their quality control problems. About 10 years ago I was choosing between a Kimber and a Colt - both stainless - and there was no comparison. The Colt was a mess. I couldn't believe they had it in the show case. Needless to say I picked the Kimber.
