We're Good For Now

All it took was a cortisone shot and a strong anti-inflammatory prescription and we're good to go for a while. My visit to the bone doc yesterday went well.

About thirty years ago I arrested some drunk for punching out his girlfriend. There were no further incidents on the way back to the station but as we walked into the booking area, he suddenly stopped and drove his cowboy boot heel into my right knee (hyper-extending it backwards as I later found out). I had an interesting floor level conversation with that young man and a full canister of Mace. It's amazing how much of that crap you can have sprayed up your nose and down your throat and not die. My concomitant trip to the hospital ER to have my knee x-rayed did not reveal the soft tissue damage. MRI's didn't exist back then.

I am rather bow-legged and this also puts pressure on the interior side of my knees. Over the decades there were other injuries which have also given me problems. And now once again I am limping pathetically like Obama's Presidential campaign.

So yesterday the bad news is that after two arthroscopic procedures in the last twenty years I am just about out of cartilage. As the above x-ray suggests, There is little to no cartilage left on one side, bone spurs on both sides and the femur (the top of the knee joint) is displaced to one side. And the patella (knee cap) also has spurs.That's pretty representative of my right knee's condition.


The good news is that the joint is stable, strong and the connective tissue is good. A knee replacement is still in the picture, but not right now. I went down the stairs this morning without pain for the first time in over six months. And deer season starts on November 17th.

Now I gotta ask myself, "Why did I wait so long?"
Hopefully this will last a while, if it gets bad again - and it will - we'll just go from there.

Obama's Election Night Suite at McCormick Place

Apparently after the elections, Obama, Michelle and Reggie's kids are planning a permanent vacation at their TARP sponsored, banker-supported Hawaiian get-a-away. The reasoning for this is partly due to the venue selected by the DNC where the Obama's will spend Election night. From Hill Buzz:

[...]if Democrats really thought Barack Obama was going to be reelected, then they would have planned a massive rally in Grant Park again; the fact this is not happening is proof that, despite what you hear coming out of the Ministry of Truth that is the national media, the Democrats really do not expect Obama to win this election. Instead of Grant Park, Obama’s apparently going to have his election night event at McCormick Place…the convention center here in Chicago.

[...]Despite being within sight of the Museum Campus and Soldier Field, McCormick Place is a fortress-like island surrounded on most sides by freeways or railroad tracks (with the lake on the other side). This is where the G-8 summit was held, so the dignitaries could be isolated and kept as far away from the public as possible in downtown Chicago. Because the only realistic way of reaching McCormick Place is by taxi (or car, if people drive themselves) this is clearly not a place Obama would be holding an election night event if he really thought he was going to win the election. How on Earth would his throngs of supporters be able to reach him if he won and the event was held here of all places?

McCormick Place is not a spot to hold a victory rally, folks…but it is the ideal spot to give a concession speech.

The notion that America needs a good spanking from God keeps me sleepless at times. God is not mocked. His laws are immutable and inescapable. Just as the physical laws of our universe are not violated without risk, the moral boundaries that God has established have their own penalties if transgressed.

We are seeing those laws and penalties in action. America has stopped being a moral agent in this world and has become simply another immoral actor. Instead of a million bloggers recapturing the role of Paul Revere, perhaps we need a million Jonahs.

The Redcoats/Communists/Socialists/Atheists are not the problem. We as a nation are the problem.

Been Busy

The kitchen remodeling is now proceeding apace. The electrical work is done, the soffits and tray ceiling are in and the insulation/sheetrock is going up. The new cabinets were delivered Friday and the wife and I were looking at kitchen carts/islands on Saturday. It took several days for the electrical work to be completed as the electrician found nearly a half dozen problems in the old wiring, three back fed circuits to start with. God willing, the cabinets will be up by the end of this week. My running around like a madman has been greatly reduced.

Sgt. Girl made another surprise visit this weekend. She is extending her contract so she can redeploy (her battalion leaves in  90 days) and she is pretty sure she will not reenlist for another three years. Not sure what she will do afterwards but she would love to open a bed and breakfast somewhere in NY. After church service, she and Mumma made delicious pumpkin rum cake and pumpkin squares; she left at oh-dark hundred this morning to return to Bragg.

Our youngest has had it with SUNY Oneonta and will not return after the end of this semester. Her grades are good, but it is just not what she wanted. Part of the problem is finding some people she can relate to. She has been brought up in a Christian home and spent her first year away from home at a bible college - which she said was like living at home anyway. She does not like the loose moral environment and the students' immaturity at the state college and called Saturday night to tell us. We knew she was struggling with this and made sure she understood that  we were not pressuring her to continue. She is mindful of the financial contributions we made and did not want to disappoint us.

She has had some problems with her roommate and related how this young woman had a strained relationship with her divorced parents. She seemed to be resentful that our daughter loved to Skype us and talk/text us several times a week and would not join her and her friends in ripping apart other girls for they way they dressed, the boys they liked, etc. So they thought our daughter was conceited, they had it all wrong. We brought her up to be a kind, considerate, person - not some self-absorbed, neurotic mess. I feel sorry for them, the kids today deserve better from their parents and

I BLAME THE PARENTS.

Forget the iPods, huge weekly allowances and designer clothes. Kids need a secure, structured home where consistent love and discipline is provided by a mom and dad.

Any way, have a Merry or Happy Columbus Day. Rejoice in the fact that he wasn't named Christopher Thudpucker.

Like A Good Neighbor - Gaza Is There

The Egyptians are closing dozens of smuggling tunnels that permit access from the Gaza Strip into Egypt after Palestinian terrorists snuck across the border and murdered sixteen Egyptian border guards. From the Jerusalem Post:

For the first time since the election of President Mohamed Morsi, Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have staged demonstrations against the demolition of tunnels along the border with Egypt.

Some of the protests were organized by Hamas, whose leaders had thus far refrained from criticizing Morsi and the new Egyptian government.

The protests are seen as the first sign of tensions between Hamas and the Egyptians since the ouster of president Hosni Mubarak in February 2011.

In recent weeks, Egyptian security forces have destroyed dozens of tunnels that Hamas and many Palestinians used to smuggle goods and people across the border.

The move came after unidentified terrorists killed 16 Egyptian border guards in their military base in Sinai during Ramadan.

“Oh, people and president of Egypt, until when will you continue to impose a blockade on the Gaza Strip,” read a placard carried by one of the protesters during a demonstration near the border with Egypt.

Oh, people and leaders of Gaza, when will you grab a clue?

There is a lot of pissing and moaning about how tough life is in Palestine and how medical supplies and food are hard to get and blah blah bullshit.

But not a single sentence decrying how the tunnels are used for terror, murder and chaos.

Not a single word on how to control the savage impulses of these maniacs who cross international borders to pillage and wreck havoc.

It's as if the Muslims consider it a God-given given right to slaughter anyone they want to; it's the 3rd Amendment of the Koran right after freedom to humiliate woman and man/goat love.

She accepted her punishment and was said by her lawyer to be trying to move on. But on Saturday morning she was found dead at her Michigan home.

Amanda also plead guilty to fraud when she continued receiving food stamps after winning the lottery. She did buy a house, a new car and apparently enough drugs to kill herself.
