A diatribe defense: Pros say Khalid Shaikh Mohammed will act as his own lawyer in WTC terror case

Now that the venue is finally set, a sinister question looms over the case of confessed 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed: Will he use the court as a platform to spew his sickening diatribes?

Experts say the terror thug will likely resist legal representation, opting instead to turn Manhattan Federal Court into his bully pulpit.

"The chances are excellent that he represents himself," said Ron Kuby, a defense lawyer known for taking on controversial clients.

"[Mohammed's] goal in the legal system is not to beat the rap. His goal is to use the legal system as a forum for his own ideas and to embrace martyrdom through that system."

As Mohammed and his underlings languished in Guantanamo Bay, a fleet of lawyers have worked to protect their rights.

But Mohammed repeatedly tried to get rid of his lawyers, Scott McKay and David Nevin, insisting he's bent on achieving martyrdom.

Even a lawyer for the ACLU, which has been helping to safeguard the rights of the terror gang, conceded that the likelihood they go it alone in court is high.

"It's quite possible that these defendants will undertake to represent themselves," Ben Wizner said. "They've been trying to fire their lawyers the whole time so they can be executed."

Experts say it's possible Mohammed will plead guilty, seeking a quicker path to death.

But if he opts to fight the charges and agrees to legal representation, his lawyer "will have powerful legal weapons at his disposal," said noted criminal defense attorney Alan Dershowitz.

Lawyers could seize on the time it's taken to prosecute the accused terrorists, arguing that they were denied their constitutional rights to a speedy trial.

A crafty defense lawyer might also employ a tactic called "graymailing," demanding reams of classified information in the hope that prosecutors refuse to release them. That provides an opening for a lawyer to request the indictment be dismissed.

Torture is also likely to play a central role in the case.

That Mohammed was waterboarded more than 180 times by CIA investigators is no secret.

"The first thing they're going to do is challenge all of the evidence and say all of it is the fruit of waterboarding," Dershowitz said.

Torture should still be playing a central role in this monster's life.

He should be torn to pieces and then the pieces should be waterboarded and then the boards they use to waterboard the pieces should be waterboarded.

Nickie,
Are you sure you didn't post a picture of Rosie O'Donnell by mistake?

Schmoe, I have great difficulty telling them apart.

TF, our minds our sharing the same scenario!

Sig, they should start each day by waterboarding his 2nd grade teacher... just on GP.

Dang it. I saw that photo and puked on another keyboard.
Can you give some warning next time man?

Nickie,
In the interest of being helpful, Mohamed's decollete will display less hair.

Hope this helps.

I am even more upset about this when I heard this morning that several people will be tried in military tribunals. This is simply political. It is stunning that people being in such high level positions are playing games that could end up being deadly. What is Obama going to say when there are riots in Middle Eastern countries and people are killed? The propraganda machines will be working overtime.

Dude, always keep a sponge handy.

Schmoe, thanks for the tip. My old method of looking for the girlish sparkle no longer works.

Girl, our enemies are also working overtime... even those in the White House.

Well, nobody should stop Mohammed from pleading guilty - if for him the death means some religious satisfaction, for us the satisfaction is far more down to the earth - one bastard would be killed. I'm sorry for saying it this roughly, but according to the unclassified report I read, there is a sufficient amount of evidence against him - perhaps even without the confession after the torture. So if he gets acquitted, it would occur just because of some technicalities and that could not be called a just decision. Elli

I'm thinking he might as well wear the same shirt. It will not matter much because he is going to look like a fool.

Maybe it’s just me but it is getting more apparent that our national anthem means less and less to folks these days.
I learned when I was in kindergarten that you should stand silently, with your hand over your heart. You can either sing along or just shut the fuck up but more and more people are oblivious of this.
To those of you who like to text, chat with neighbors, pick your fucken nose and scratch yourself down there let me just say you people make me sick.
Here I am in the DC arena full of liberal folks, albeit in the liberal capital of the Country and people are showing less and less respect for the anthem and what it means.
In addition more and more idiot fucks like to shout out random retarded shit at the end of the song where it says “and the home… of the brave…” brave being replaced with some ignorant shit like “The other team Sucks” which was shouted during Kansas City Chiefs football game.
Not sure why it bothers me now, I have been to more sporting events in person due to my Mrs. and me purchasing KU football tickets and witnessing the dreadful collapse of a promising football team.
Folks this is just an observation and a rant. Moodiness has its price.

This moodiness has also led to me not blogging near as much as I have in the past. I have just made a conscious decision not to pay as much attention to the days news and I use to. I’ll be honest with you; I just don’t give a shit as much anymore… or at least right now.
I’m sure the time of year has a lot to do with it. It has been a busy time here it work after next week we will have nothing major until February so I will have a lot of down time.
The weather has been great in this part of the country and I have taken advantage by riding my motorcycle and frankly this takes precedence over anything our idiot fuck president does. (Or don’t do, when he should)
I don’t want pay too much attention to Obama fucking things up, and believe me he has fuck up enormously . I will be so happy when he ceases to be president any longer. Maybe then folks can find work, recapture the “American Dream” and life can go back to some semblance of normal.
I have taken some advice from Newt during his presentation last week (if you have not watched I highly recommend). Yes Obama has fucked up things but this is America… we can and will recover and if this nation can overcome a fucken moron like Jimmy Carter we can overcome a disaster like the little prick Obama.
So while I go through my “don’t give a shit stage” but we all have our priorities and Obama or liberals in general should NOT be at the top of anybody’s give a shit list, but be on there somewhere.
I may start posting more funny and entertaining stuff to break the cycle of despair and hopelessness many face because of this Socialist thug president.
So to wrap up today, here is something I did read this morning.
*****
Grieving Mom demands Obama make decision on Afghanistan troop levels... As family and friends mourn a fallen U.S. paratrooper on Veteran's Day, his mother made an emotional plea to President Barack Obama that it's time to either bring home the troops or end the war in Afghanistan.
The body of Benjamin Sherman, 21, was recovered in Afghanistan Tuesday.
"It's time we do something. This has gone on too long. They either need to come home or we need to end it," a tearful Denise Sherman said.
Sherman was on his second tour of duty when he disappeared in Afghanistan last week during a mission to resupply troops in the western part of the country. He was a paratrooper with the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, based in Fort Bragg, N.C.
So my message to Obama is simply... Shit or get off the pot!

Toronto, I too am concerned about the possible technicalities. This could be painful.

Oh, Rosie Mohammered ... I hardly knew her. Are the two "O's" (Opie & Odie) the only ones that noticed? That's one great picture Mr. Goomba.

And as far as Obama goes, he'll be giving Rosie Mohammered one of his specialties as illustrated below.

Woody, many people noticed, but some primitive survival instinct moved them to scrub it from their memory banks.

He could do it.

Nice pic, Nicolas. It makes Khalid look like more of a man.

No need, cbull... the media will be full of it.

Yep, DC... there seems to be a wisp of Art Metrano in there somewhere.

It would be a shame (read: not a shame) if someone with a high-powered rifle were to cap Khalid Shaikh Mohammed at some point before he goes on trial in New York City.

The evil things a defense lawyer could do with this trial are almost too disgusting to contemplate. I cannot believe the Obama administration has such blinders on. And I still don't know how they can continue violating federal immigration law by admitting these terrorists into the United States.

Oh, right, silly me. They're above the law.

Iggie, they don't have blinders on. They know exactly what they're doing.
