Funny guy, we have the same controversies in Britain where eggs and milk were branded as "bad for you" for a couple of decades until just recently when both were rehabilitated as Superfoods that save us from cancer and all kinds of stuff.
When I was a kid the milk came in gallon jars - whole milk with about 6" of cream on the top - not homogenized, not even pasturized. The cow was milked that morning.
I liked skimming the cream off the top to put on breakfast cereal or oatmeal but my grandmother kept mixing the cream up.
I remember the milk box we had on the side of the house. It held 4 glass quarts of milk. The milkman would deliver at oh-dark hundred - I never saw the truck when I was a kid. My mom bought groceries to feed a family of seven for $35 a week.

Jersey cows give the very best milk.
