The Soft Racism Of Lowered Expectations

In a perfect world, how would you handle failing minority test scores?
Address educational deficiencies?
Help poorly performing students with tutors and other resources?
Identify systemic problems within the targeted population and work with community leaders to overcome them?

Get real. The teachers' unions, liberal administrators and the federal government are running the show. Simply lower the grades needed to pass the test. Make an "F" a "D" - an easy, instant fix. Soft racism is still racism. Are minorities incapable of obtaining good grades? Of course not, but don't tell the Justice Department that.
DAYTON — The city’s Civil Service Board and the U.S. Department of Justice have agreed on a lower passing score for the police recruit exam after it was rejected because not enough blacks passed the exam.

The city lowered both written exams a combined 15 points that resulted in 258 more people passing the exam, according to a statement released Thursday by Civil Service officials. The agreement allows the city to immediately resume its plans to hire police and firefighters.

The original passing scores determined by Civil Service required candidates to answer 57 of 86 (66 percent) questions correctly on one portion and 73 of 102 (72 percent) on the other. The lowered benchmark requires candidates to answer 50 of 86 (58 percent) questions correctly and 64 of 102 (63 percent) of questions on the other.
All this will do is increase the amount of work needed to piece together a proper police investigation. Poor sentence construction, the inability to capture the flow of events and draw logical conclusions can make a fairly simple prosecution nearly impossible to follow.

And from Bill O'Reilly: Dayton's test standards were already lowered in 2008 under President Bush.

If the standards get any lower the only qualifications needed to become a Dayton cop or fireman will be two armpits and a functioning butthole. And the Americans With Disabilities Act may prohibit discrimination for non-functioning buttholes.

A police report is a descriptive narrative; it has a beginning and an end. By time you are through reading it, you're supposed to have a clear idea of what transpired: who did what to whom, how, why, where and when it happened. Even in the more modern departments where reports are filed on line there is still the need for a narrative that can be easily understood.

The devil is in the details; and if the details aren't there, the devil walks out of the station scot free. I have seen hundreds of cases thrown out by judges because of simple errors in accusatory instrument templates where a single element of a crime is omitted. I have listened to criminal prosecutors scream at cops during in-service training sessions because of deficient paperwork that is never corrected.

You don't want cops who have trouble writing a simple report.
Of course there's the other extreme.

If you're going to break the law, do it in Dayton.

This not only would put an otherwise failing officer in danger, but a citizen in danger as well because you have what could potentially be a person with poor judgment skills who needs to make a quick judgment call at any given moment.

Nothing but a bunch of empty bitching from people who probably supported the measures that created this situation, namely the defunding of poor school systems through "No Child Left Behind." Those tutors you think they should get, how do you think they can pay for them when low test scores means less money?

Add to that the fact that you call black people "blacks," and I'm to the point of hoping you all just choke to death.

Liberalism's social Darwinism. Read
Ginx's comment as an example. He's on libomatic.

There is a dubious connection between school "funding" and overall
student performance. "This situation", as Ginx describes it, is largely cultural, not racial or financial.

Death by choking is common among drummers and yammering liberal pseuds like Ginx who strangle on their prog bile and bullshit virtues. Spare us the sermon, you asshole.

Vicar - these miserable test grades also help explain how people like Bret "The Talking Yeast Infection" Alan fail to realize that I did not use the word "blacks" but it was used by the source, the Dayton Daily News.

FuzzyD - He is always a source of help. But even God can't cure stupid.

Pewster - the new requirements are quite different. Now you can only shoot if there is an (R) after the suspect's name. Look at how the cops in Madison looked the other way as union thugs tore up petitions for the recall of democrat senators who hid out in IL.

Odie - I don't think the Dayton cops are overjoyed with this turn of events. No one likes having their profession branded as dummies. I know when the feds interfered with our hiring because of the same problem with minorities our PBA was incensed. Keep the standards high and you have fewer personnel problems down the road. This is extrememly shortsighted but that's what the libs do best.

Mark - I will be the first to admit that some people are just poor test takers. That is the bane of any civil service system. And some of the worst a**holes in the world test rather well. But still, just how far can you dummy down minimum requirements before the whole thing becomes a joke??? Stuff like this really pisses me off becuase I can see what will happen down the line. I saw it in my own department.

Bret - Rhod said it all and he does it so well.

But due to your obvious reading comprehension disability, I am petitioning Blogspot.com to generate a special feature whereby all posts can be viewed as if written in crayon. This will be called the "Douchebag Effect" in honor of you.

Walk tall, be proud. Not everyone can set their sights as low as yours.

Is it really soft racism if it is true? The question is, should teh stupid be allowed into offices they obviously cannot attain legitimately? Of course not, but it is not for us to answer, it seems. Your government has decided what is best for you. Change it or eat it.

sig94 said...

Doom - I would like to have my change and eat it too.

Section 8 in important services.

You know what section 8 does. It motivates people with something on the ball to go elsewhere.

If you get my drift.

Rhod - None of us would mind if the libs just cut their own throats, but they won't be satisfied until they drag the whole country down the tubes. Like "Ginx" above, they don't read the instructions before they open the box and start mixing chemicals. And when things go kaboom they blame everyone else.

sig94 said...

Kid - The only section 8 I know is for federal subsidized housing. Got me on that one.

Kid said...

Sig, I'm thinking as follows:

Section 8 housing is for losers. The champions of the losers say, "If you'd only put section 8 people in a decent neighborhood, they'd be better people". (That's been done in Cincinnati and I'm sure elsewhere)
So they put the section 8 people in a nice neighborhood. In short order the nice neighborhood goes to hell. Example. Single mom with hellians. Hellians go out and vandalize nice people's cars and houses. Nice people call cops. Cops say, we can't put kid in jail, too young. Single mom don't have money to pay for damage, so you're screwed. Nice people move out. Nice neighborhood turns to slum. Somehow this is still Nice people's fault.
Turning to Police and Fire Departments forced to hire Losers.
Good fire and police personnel begin losing life or being injured due to being forced to work beside losers. Good fire and police people move on. Police and Fire departments filled with losers.

Kid - same with teachers. So many young, idealistic teachers go to central city schools and are disheartened by the conduct of the students and the non-involvement of the parents. They transfer out to the suburban school districts after a few years where they can actually teach someone who wants to learn. So many urban schools are a shambles because the middle class fled the cities because of federally forced busing in the 60's.

Kid said...

Sig, I eat lunch most days with a couple in their 60's who were once teachers. Good ones. Who cam to the conclusion that their talents were completely wasted, that they left and excelled in the business world.
My bosses wife is a teacher. The story hasn't changed.

There are some good schools and some good teachers but they are the few.
