They're more what you'd call ... guidelines.
The jury has recommended that the mass murderer of Fort Hood receive the death penalty.
Fort Hood, Texas (CNN) -- A military jury on Wednesday recommended the death penalty for convicted Fort Hood shooter Maj. Nidal Hasan, for the 2009 massacre on post that left 13 people dead and 32 others wounded.
The 13-member panel spent less than two hours deliberating privately, and the president -- or forewoman-- announced the finding in open court with a clear voice, that Hasan "be put to death."
I'm wondering if the jury's recommendation carries the same weight as Capt. Barbossa's pirate's code "guidelines" in Pirates of the Caribbean. In any event, this sonofabitch may outlive most of us during the appeal process.
The convicted killer said nothing as the decision was announced, and had appeared emotionless earlier in the morning when dramatic closing arguments in the sentencing phase were held without his participation.

I doubt he will appeal. (I hope he doesn't appeal.) He wants to be a martyr. As you, yourself said,
"He expects a glorious welcome to Paradise."
My brother was shot and suffered injuries that sound identical in consequence to what Hasan has (paralysis, constant pain). When he died from a bloodclot to the lungs we were told it was probably better that way since he'd have been in constant suffering the rest of his life. Any medication used to alleviate the pain would have led to addiction and NO doctor allows that! You have to learn to manage it. FWIW, George Wallace had similar issues after he was shot, in a televised interview he admitted to dealing with a lot of constant pain.
My point is that no matter how long this Islamic scum lives due to the appeals process it'll be in ever-present agony, one long day at a time.
I hear you. It is God's mercy that he is still alive today. Perhaps his death was stayed (none of the bullets that struck him were mortal wounds) and will be stayed yet again for only one reason - so he can hear & respond to the Gospel.
So many times we forget God's mercy to us and maybe think that because we're "good" people God approves of us (yeah - I forget and just react). That's not a scriptural view. Only Enoch and Elijah did not see death but were taken by God.
The rest of us are lost in our sin ... but for Jesus. So, Maj. Hasan may live another 10 or 15 years before they pull the plug on him. We have no idea what God has in store for him; at least on this side of the grave. And the hard part,I suppose, is that it's none of our business to question it.
