Land Of The Once Free, Home Of The White Trash

We all saw it coming. Step by step, little by little we witnessed the coarsening of society. Perhaps we tsk-tsked over it and made a few snide remarks about the dreadful lack of propriety. Or walked away from a storefront where some 350 pound Dulcinea is screaming at a uniformed Don Quixote. But that did absolutely nothing to reverse the trickle, and now the avalanche of white trash.

Some find it amusing, even refreshing to see the great unwashed blossom into a freak show. But the moral values that made our culture the envy of the world are also the foundation on which our nation was built. And they are crumbling.

Self reliance? Gone - we discovered social programs.

Hard work? Gone - we removed most restrictions for collecting some form of welfare.

Chastity? Modesty? Faithfulness to your spouse? Gone - we got Snooki and Miley and Paris and when they're retired we'll have a whole new generation of twerking sluts that will make the aforementioned unholy trio look like cloistered nuns.

Respect for tradition? Gone - the new heroes are queers, queefs, tranys and some God forsaken gender that hasn't been thought of yet. Probably something to do with interspecies breeding with hamsters or bats. You doubt this? Some pervert will get his hands on a DNA sequencing cookbook so he can play with himself while hanging from his knees for extended periods of time. And by then everything will be a right, nothing will be withheld from the fevered imaginations of men who have rejected any and all measures of self control. The federal government will see to it.

In any event, the NY Post makes passing mention of the demise of our society:
Society crumbles when it takes cues from the underclass

When Snooki, whose talents include getting sloppy drunk and throwing up on camera, made Barbara Walters’ “Ten Most Fascinating People” list a few years back, one could only ask: Was Octomom not available?

Last year, “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,” which features a cornucopia of social ills, was TLC’s highest-rated show, attracting more cable viewers than the Republican National Convention, which had the misfortune to share the time slot with the charmers from Georgia. The show’s matriarch, June Shannon, has four daughters by four men, one of whose names she can’t recall.
For years I patrolled neighborhoods like this. The pandemonium generated by these people is something to behold. One call after another for fights, drunkenness, disturbances, neighbor disputes, domestic disputes, knifings, brawls, property damage, incest, fires, sexual molestation, murder, children running wild, parents running wild (mostly just a parent, Lord only knew where the other one was), abductions, seductions, every kind of fraud imaginable, thievery, knavery, sodomy and that's all before the shooting starts. Places everyone! Action! Let the ambulances roll!

And it's all on your dollar.

The proverbial ten pounds of crap in a five pound bag with an idiot-in-waiting for a chaser.
Do you watch Honey Boo Boo? That show is a curse, a foul prophetic vision of what America now accepts as the norm.
White Trash is the new normal — and you don’t have to tune in to reality TV to rub elbows with pathologies that once stayed put in Skunk Hollow. White Trash Normal has invaded every nook and cranny of life, from table manners, to dress, to money management.

Remember when bouncing a check was shameful? Now apparently it’s shameful for banks to charge overdraft fees.

Students of Arnold Toynbee, the English historian, will recognize what is going on here. In a chapter of his “A Study of History” entitled “Schism in the Soul,” Toynbee argued that it is a sign that a society is disintegrating when it takes its cues for manners and customs from the underclass. He describes such societies as being “truant” to their own values.
I really should take my meds now.

When you remove yourself from things like this, even if that removal is only slight and superficial, you soon notice what slop in the cultural swill bucket has become the new norm. I found this out recently when a meeting of my men's retreat group from church got together. In the course of the evening one of the members, a highly educated and very successful retiree who is also active in the prolife movement, enthusiastically spoke of a TV program he'd recently come across. It's "Breaking Bad".

In case you didn't know, it details how a school teacher finds it "necessary" to deal meth. Personally I cannot think of anything more revolting, except for a program extolling kiddie porn (that'll be next!).

Yet here was this man I'd come to respect who was effusively gushing over this POS and recommending it to one and all.

The wife and I turned off the tube after Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction". During the Kerry/Bush debates we turned it back on. Thats it.

You'd be surprised at how easy it gets over time. But based on that recent experience is why I think once you step away from the public trough you get to notice whats on the menu.

Sometimes I wonder how hard it would be to join an Amish community.

Subvet - good for you! We watch sports on TV. That's about it for programs. I cannot abide the senseless banality of television, it's pandering to crude sensationalism and soft porn. If we hear about a series that seems to be good, we'll buy the DVD's and watch it - a plus is avoiding all the stupid commercials.

I used to watch EWTN, occasionally see what the talking heads at FOX were on about. EWTN, from what I can tell, has been stripped of morality programming and FOX has taken a nose dive into stupid, deeper than it ever was.

As for social? I don't know if it's drugs, attention disorders/addiction to electronica/what. All I know is it is not safe to be on the roads, walk on the streets near drivers, and it is frustrating to try to hold conversations with people who... Look, I'm mostly dead. I have memory problems. And I beat out most folk. I feel like I am talking to goldfish. Huh? Yeah, like that.

I thought I would go to the mountain desert, as Obi-won did. (smirk) It IS better here, but not much and fading. Hmm, I should start scouting for a cave complex? Bleh.

Do the meds help?

Who me? If so, yes Odie. I went from 80% dead to only 65-70% dead (heart function). Took two to three years, but it's... sort of working.

I thought Honey Boo Boo was the world's cutest dog. Imagine my surprise just now when I googled and found out the dog was simply "Boo" and "Honey Boo Boo" is a child. Proof that you can learn something every day if you aren't careful.

I don't even know where to begin here outside of saying that those wishing to destroy this republic from within are doing a bang up job of it. If only we could resurrect the sense of shame...

Doom - the wife and I talk about where to go. There is no where. The Stoopid has taken root and has festered magnificently. That's the only way Obama could have been elected.

Gorges - that's been simmering awhile. It really hurts to see what our nation has become.

Odie - they just keep my heart in my chest.

Anam - they operate on a level not much above that of dogs. Other than a hot meal, a soft bed and a warm place to crap, they're about par with each other.

Andy - I think they have succeeded far above what they hoped for.
