I Had A Great Date Tonight

My youngest daughter decided that she was not going to buy me another dress shirt and tie for Father's Day. Instead, she took me out to dinner, just the two of us.

We went to the Bangkok Thai Restaurant in Liverpool and had a great meal. I had never been there and was pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent and the owner/manager was a gas. He was a little Thai dude that ended every sentence with "rock and roll!"

She had Pan Thai and I had Lordknowswhat with wide rice noodles, mushrooms, baby corn and shrimp. I'll eat anything if you stick some shrimp in it.

Between bites we talked about her plans to move to NYC and how her resume is being rounded out with her current job as assistant manager. She wanted to move by September but now will wait until after the holidays. Apparently that will be a good time to job shop for the high end clothing industry in NY. I know my wife will be very glad to hear that.

And then the evening's pièce de résistance; we stopped for soft ice cream at a Byrne Dairy near the NY State Fair grounds. I finally had my first chocolate cone with chocolate sprinkles of the season.

Even better, just by luck a small diner across the street has Cruze Nites every Friday. This is for the classic car crowd and they did not disappoint. So as we ate our cones we were entertained by hot 50's and 60's cars leaving the diner. There was a '55 Roadmaster, a deuce coup, '60 Fairlane, '66 Charger, '67 Fairlane, and more. Some had engine work done and laid down a nice little patch of rubber as they exited the parking lot. I called out the year and model as they left. My daughter said that it reminded her of the end of the Disney movie "Up" when Carl and Russel are sitting on the curb eating ice cream and counting red and blue cars.

Thank you Lord; it was a very good evening. Very good.
