New 5.56mm Alley Sweeper

A new microgun is available - it weighs but 16 pounds, can be as little as 22 inches long and will fire 2,000 to 4,000 rounds a minute.

Holy crap, look how small it is!

Sure, you know the M134 Minigun, but how about the hand-held XM556 Microgun that tips the scales at about one-fifth the weight?

The Minigun, which weighs in at about 85 pounds in its traditional format and fires 7.62x51mm NATO about as fast as a fat kid can go through a stack of twinkees, is well-known and loved among those who ain’t got time to bleed. However, Empty Shell LLC of Spring, Texas went all-in on a tiny little variant of the Mingun that they like to call the XM556 Microgun.

Designed and built from scratch as a replacement for the GE XM-214, the 5.56mm version of the Minigun, it only weighs about 16 pounds– which is lighter than a Para M249. Using either 10 or 16 inch barrels (!) the gun is just 22-inches long in its shortest config and using M-27 Linked Ammunition Belts, will spew 5.56 at 2000-4000 rounds per minute, which is a good start in our opinion.

Sig: being a practical guy and all, I have a quick question....5.56 ball rounds are about a buck apiece, give or take to make the math easy (I am a public school educated guy).

My question: At 4,000 rounds per minute (or, in my public school math, $4,000.00 per minute), what kind of filthy rich millionaires are lining up to buy these things? Or, in my case, I suppose I could twitch my trigger finger and send down range maybe 11 rounds, and then my toy budget is shot (pun intended).

Or, "I ain't got the money to bleed." I hope Jesse doesn't take offense at my bastardization of his line.

Finally, a use for the 5.56 (imho)! And, yeah, I'd take one even if it cost me a muzies left nut. Or right. Or both. Heck, I would denut the whole pack for one and enough ammo for a weekend get-together, shindig, or whatever the Texans call a shoot festival. You know, that might fix two problems with one stone... or would that technically be two stones? Meh, they aren't really solid men... two for one... yeah... one stone. :p

Fred,

Time IS money, or so they say. So... it's not a complete bastardization, and show someone reads and watches, if they don't always recall perfectly correctly. *cough* Not like us here, mind you.

Fredd - the NYS lottery, a buck and a dream. Maybe a 5.56 mm hailstorm too.

Don't know, Daniel, but my first accessories would be a bolt-down mount, and a harness that included a way to tie me to a tree or perhaps the mount, or such. Details and learning curve, all part of the fun.
