Texas Coach Mack Brown yesterday:

''Same thing in 2005. We sat here in 2005, and SC was an unbelievable team, and I can remember Texas was soft. I can remember NFL guys are soft. I can remember we don't have a chance, and our guys played great that night. I also remember standing out on the field before the game and looking down at SC and seeing the horse and the band and all the good stuff about SC that all of us grew up with, and I saw Pete and talked to him for a while, and I was standing there, and Greg Davis, the offensive coordinator came up, and I thought, my gosh, they've got a great-looking football team. Look at those guys. He just patted me on the shoulder, and he said, "Well, turn around. Yours look pretty good, too.

''I thought that was pretty good. I'm not sure that we ever give ourselves enough credit. We've got a good team, too.''

Like the "invincible" '05 USC team, Alabama is in trouble.

Hook 'em, Horns.

DC, last night was my weekly Beans & BBQ Poker game and, as usual, Joe Namath joined me, Huey Lewis, and Scooter (the GNN accountant) for a few hands of "8 card Stomp 'em".

At the end of the evening, Joe guaranteed a Bama victory. I believe the case is closed.

Like every one else at Bama, Joe Willie has never beaten Texas, either. I've got my '65 Orange Bowl glass to prove it.

Hey, Nick, what's with the Bear photos to the right? Bring back Obama, I say.

Listen ... don't bother me today. I am on the slopes.

DC... I won't allow your racist slurs here. You can comment again once you've sobered up.

Woman... DC has no sense of humor today. He's already perched in front of the set and using all his willpower to avoid tearing open a 5 lb. sack of Cheetos he bought at Costco last night. (In DC's part of Texas, Cheetos are their own food group.)

He's already snapped at the kids and kicked the dog. The entire family, for their own safety, are praying for a Texas victory. If the Horns are losing at halftime, Mrs. DC will begin loading up the station wagon... just in case.

Sounds like crisis intervention in the making at the DC household. Tell Mrs. DC that Best Buy is having a sale on Tasers.

Wait until at least his shoulders, preferably his head also, emerge completely out of the Cheeto bag; powdered fake cheese is an excellent conductor.

Set the Taser to "Frappe" and cover the TV room with Depends.

This is the funniest blog I have ever read.

sig... One small clarification. Mrs. DC allows Cheetos in the den only if the bag and DC are both confined fully within the burnt orange Snuggie. That way, following the game, DC emerges from the Snuggie on the front lawn where is is cleansed with a hose set to "needle spray".

So, if he acts up there's really no need for the Depends.

Ahhhhhhh, Mrs. DC very wise woman. But I still think the Taser would make for an interesting half time show...

Nickie Goomba and Fredd look to share a similar fate: our alma maters went down to defeat in Pasadena.

Oregon bit the dust vs the hated Ohio State Buckeyes, and Texas came up short after Colt McKoy got knocked out early.

Of course I write this with 2:01 left in the game, Alabama just scored to go ahead 30 - 21. With an extra point coming up. Stranger things have happened.

But not very often.

Fredd, those are fighting words. My alma mater is Whittier College. The closest our team ever got to the Rose Bowl is when the team bus got lost and accidentally took the Glendale exit off the 210.

Sorry, Nickie. Your many Goomba writers got me confused. Of course you are proud of the Mighty, Fighting Whittier College Poets. Just the mere sound of the name of this sports juggernaut strikes abject fear into our public funded university hearts.

(..or not). I hear they actually require students read 'books' on that campus.

Remember the last time Bama lost? Utah took them to the wood shed. But they had it easy this year they never had to play a real team like Boise State.

Tres... you are SO right.
