We'll see you again in the New Year

This evening, in an annual ritual celebrated since 1961, DC, Rhod, Sig94, and I climbed the stairs to the roof of the Goomba News Network Building to illuminate the traditional "Good Riddance, Old Year" ball of lights.

This impressive fixture will brighten the intersection of State Street and 4th Avenue in downtown Sandusky until the stroke of midnight on New Years Eve. At that moment, Rhod will spit off the roof, yell "Acta est fabula, plaudite!" to the crowd, and turn off the lights.

Ah, tradition! We can't get enough of the stuff.

WE NEED A REST.
WE'LL BE BACK IN THE NEW YEAR.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year. I suggest we keep the pressure on President Hussein in 2011.

I'll be in the crowd again this year on 4th Avenue. Rhod always spits on State Street.

I just love last year's photo. I remember that DC even bought a new flannel shirt for the evening.

This year I promise to bring the "Glow In The Dark" Cap'n Crunch cereal so we can find our way back down the stairs in the dark. Rhod, those animal cracker cookie crumbs just didn't help last year and I refuse to call the janitor again... so embarassing.

Sig, those were Weetabix crumbs from Nick's fluffy slippers.

In deference to DC and his cult-like devotion to the Greenie movement, all the light bulbs will be curly CFLs.

And Edison wept.

Happy New Year to the GNN crew - both the talent that we all see and the elves toiling behind the scene to produce the real news.

Odie, I had nothing to do with the hiatus. Post-Christmas skinning (for Spring sales) at the DC-Goomba chinchilla farm keep them too busy for anything else.

Wood, that shot is ... good!

When the boss says lights out, that means he is heading out on the town. We know he means business, and we have to get our rest to keep up.

Anyway, if I get bored, I will just go over to Rhod's house and shoot the tires out of the neighbors' cars like last year.

Carol, I like your idea. I will vote for RR. Always.

Already did it, DC.

Happy new year goomba's!

This year, it's go to the mats time.

Enjoy it! I will...

Nickie, opening package; "What's this?"

Sig 94, grimacing; "It's a message. Toaster sleeps with the maple syrup."

Rhod, Blinking back tears; "Ugh. What a freakin' mess!"

DC, with a wicked grin; "Well, don't just stand there you shadrools! Do you know what they charge for this stuff? Hurry up and get the Bisquick..."

Rhod said...

Toast, DC patronizes IHOP, where the waitresses patronize DC.

He doesn't know real maple syrup from Karo. On the other hand, you and I do, and what it takes to squeeze it from all those sugar maples.
