Justice Is Served

As it is said, the wheels of Justice grind exceedingly slow but exceedingly fine.
But Justice cannot put the wheels back on the bus. It cannot bring back the dead, nor restore missing limbs nor shattered lives. And as one process is over, another one begins. Mr. Tsarnaev will live for quite some time before the executioner earns a day's wages. And he actually will probably outlive most of us as Massachusetts has not imposed capital punishment on anyone in almost 70 years.
BOSTON (CBS/AP) — A jury sentenced Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to death Friday for the Boston Marathon bombing, sweeping aside pleas that he was just a “kid” who fell under the influence of his fanatical older brother.
Tsarnaev, 21, stood with his hands folded, his head slightly bowed, upon learning his fate, decided after 14 hours of deliberations over three days. It was the most closely watched terrorism trial in the U.S. since the Oklahoma City bombing case two decades ago.

WBZ-TV reporter Jim Armstrong was in the courtroom, sitting just behind Tsarnaev when the verdict was read. “From what I could see behind him, he just stared straight forward,” Armstrong said. “Our producer in overflow said he could see Tsarnaev’s face and it registered, from what he could tell, absolutely no emotion at all.”
Story here and here.

FTR -The last executions to take place in Massachusetts were on May 9, 1947. Phillip Bellino and Edward Gertson were executed for the murder of Robert William, a former Marine. Both defendants were electrocuted at Charlestown State Prison.

His death penalty is federal, so Mass. has no say so. They did McVey in 8 years. Maybe they can go for a new record.

If there was truly justice, as soon as the jury finished reading the sentence, he would have been dragged out onto the courthouse steps and a bullet put in his skull. With all of the news crews being ordered to transmit the act in real time.

When the facts are as rock solid as they were here, the death penalty should be sure and swift. The DNA technology we have today will go a long way in preventing innocent people from the chair, or gurney as the case may be.

There are millions of kids growing up poor and crapped on. Very few of them turn up as a terrorist.

Bob Fowler - hope you're right. Eight years is still too long.
