Democrats say: Reading the Healthcare bill and the 500 amendments will take too much time!

Dems block GOP demand for more time

Washington Times

Democrats on the Senate Finance Committee on Wednesday turned back a Republican amendment to wait 72 hours and require a full cost estimate before the final committee vote on the health care reform bill.

It was the committee's first vote out of more than 500 amendments awaiting them, in what has already been a contentious mark-up session.

The amendment would have delayed a vote on the final bill for about two weeks to allow the Congressional Budget Office to complete its final analysis on the cost and implications of the legislation.

Arkansas Sen. Blanche Lincoln was the only Democrat to vote with Republicans for the amendment, further signaling that she may be an attractive swing vote for Republicans.

Instead, the panel passed an alternative amendment that would require the committee to post the full bill, in "conceptual" instead of legal language, as well as as a CBO cost estimate.

Republicans are just stalling to make the president look bad.

Anon, the president really doesn't need help looking bad. He's pretty good at it whether repiubs are involved or not.

In the end it is no longer dem vs. republicans. This is patriots vs. progressives (and you can define progressives in your own way... for me it's out and out communism based upon black liberation theology... google it and see what the guy in the white house truly believes). The revolution has begun.

>>>repiubs

Innominatus doesn't need help typing bad. He's pretty good at it all by himself.

Anon, the irony is that, by taking his time and concentrating on Jobs, the President may actually look better.

Inno, how many times do I have to tell you? Toes aren't made for typing.

Rattler, I agree with you fully. The revolution has begun. Keep your powder dry!

My advice to the Demokratik Congressional majority:

Don't read the Republican Bill--- just sign it! (sound familiar?)

What's the problem with reading, discussing, rejoinding and putting it forward to the American people BEFORE doing anything else. There are a number of things such as Tort Reform that we all should be able to agree on. Let's pass 4 elements of the healthcare bill in 4 bills if necessary:

(1) Tort Reform
(2) Portability Reform
(3) Open Market Reform
(4) Fund Medicare (to keep it from going broke)

With the dems in charge of all legislative branches and the executive branch, I have little hope that any health care reform will improve the health care situation.

Dad, I'm amazed someone on his team hasn't told him to put a sock in it.

Senator LL, it does no good for the passionately righteous if all you're gonna do is pop in here with reasonable ideas. Wonderful proposal!!. I hope it sees the light of day.

I'm not holding my breath.

So much for transparency. What happened to hope and change?

Is it 2010 yet?

The definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over while hoping for a different result.

Did the democrats learn nothing from the porkulus bill because the American people sure as hell did. We'll read it and then give our reps hell if they don't...

and what exactly is "conceptual"? they still don't know that we don't have stupid written on our foreheads.

Anonymous said...

Goddess, I think Obama's pretty damned transparent.

Vegas, I think the Dems are gonna shove through exactly the bill they want, and they'll take the blows later. They just wanna get that ball into the end zone.

I think the Left will have their way with healthcare.

Conceptual = Deception = Lies

They're still stuck in the "jam it down their throats" mode. If there are any incumbents left after the next election, America needs its head checked.

obama's favorite color is opaque. since i am new here, are we allowed to call people in this admin "matherfargen summinabatches"?!? if not, please pardon my unladylike language.

nanc, that's one of the gentler things that have been said. Profanity is always tolerated if it's creative and somewhat humorous.

Arby,

I hereby repeat my torches and pitchforks suggestion.

Nanc, I've compiled a list from A Christmas Story which might work.

I like "smelly wump wustler", or maybe "you filthy piston helckin".

Also pretty good is "you lay snacka shacocker".

We've gotta hurry up and pass this bill so it can sit on a shelf for 4 years! Don't you silly plebeians understand?
