Not everything is peachy in Texas, but most is ...

Most away from the football field, that is.

Okay, here in Longhornland ... it's time to get some perspective.

We've got a big election ahead, with a whole bunch of congressmen up for election with some vulnerable Dems going down, and a hot governor's race (well, sort of ... we don't elect Demos any more to statewide office). Rick Perry is up by about 9 points; he's got some warts and all, but Gov. Perry is pretty smart for an Aggie. And he's conservative. Rallied with Sarah Palin earlier this year to ward off Kay Bailey Hutchison in a primary challenge.

You know that a lot of the nation's jobs of late (what few there are are) have been created here in Texas. Perry takes credit, but really it's the overall climate here. There is too much oxygen and normalcy for Democrats to make it long. I say, let's make the nation more like Texas.

But we are not perfect. No, far from it. Indeed, the marquis college football team in the Republic of Texas is in disarray. It is tough to watch, but a team one year removed from the national championship game is 4-3, with home losses this season to both UCLA and Iowa State. The end is at hand. People are preparing to fling themselves from buildings.

To get an idea how we Texans keep life and football in perspective one week out from the biggest midterm ever, check out THIS POST that really sums up the dire situation.

Okay, go vote out every Democrat in every crevice, cave, and cranny in the nation to divert your attention from the ongoing tragedy in Austin.

Some days it sucks to be a Cowboy and Longhorn fan....But its been that way since 67, so I aint throwin the towel in now.

Randy, no comment re: the NFL, except for the fact the Cowboys will need a new coach and QB to compete for it all.

Fandom of the Longhorns has been a great ride for a long time. I am afraid the laws of averages ... and Greg Davis, are catching up to us this year.

And I know that High School football and College Football are the state pastimes, but What about the Texas Rangers? NOvember!

Thanks for the effort, Odie, but I am an Astros fan. Oh, well ... back to politics.

DC - shoot. I'm a Syracuse alum. Howdya think I feel with nothing since the 87 Cotton Bowl (a tie) and some metrosexual orange flaming around the stadium for a mascot? What is it, seven years now w/o a winning season? So okay, we beat WV and we're close to the magic number but still, I remember being in the stands (semi-coherent and semi-conscious at the time) watching Larry Czonka carry half the defensive line on his back for five yards. We even had placard cheering. Dating myself again...
