Move To Federalize Local Police?

An observation from a police forum on LinkedIn.

Today, media reported that so far 25 cities police departments have gone under the department of Justice tight supervision. Teams of DOJ attorneys take over reviewing the daily routine operations. And investigate any shootings, fatalities, injuries or wrongdoing by the police officers.

Of course if any police department is violating their S.O.P. They need more additional training on the job. But excuse for nationalizing US police departments is another story and should be investigated by the US congress.

Administration’s speeches and verbal attacks on police forces in the past six months has reduced the number of arrests by police officers in the major cities 50%.

Fear of punishment and law suits by the civilians and authorities has had a very negative effect on their morale. Also, 54 more police officers have been killed this year compared to last year.

When I was a kid I was really into science fiction.

When I have some down time I still daydream about stuff, like this afternoon when it was raining and dreary.

I was thinking about a trip to Mars and what if an engine was developed that could propel a rocket at the acceleration of gravity, a constant of one g or 32 feet per second squared. This would alleviate the need to induce centripetal force for gravity. This constant acceleration would also work in reverse, just maneuver the rocket for a 180 degree shift and decelerate at one g. Half the flight in acceleration and the other half decelerating.

How long would it take to get to Mars?
First, some spreadsheet calculations. An acceleration of 32 feet per second squared means you will gain 32 fps, every second. Thus at the end of 60 seconds you will be traveling at 1,920 fps or 1,309.1 miles per hour. Since gravity is a constant, you will gain an additional 1,309 mph for every minute you maintain this acceleration.

After an hour your speed will be 78,546 mph.
After 24 hours accelerating at one g, your speed will be 1,885,104 mph.

Now let's turn the rocket around and decelerate at the same constant. At the end of four days (2 days accelerating and 2 days decelerating) you would have traveled a total of almost 181 million miles. More than enough to cover the average distance from Earth to Mars but average distances can be very deceiving and we are aiming at a moving target - but let's keep it simple.

The timing of the launch is critical. The closest Mars has been to Earth in the last twelve years is 34.6 million miles. And that only happens when Mars is in opposition to Earth. For that to happen, three conditions must exist:

1. the Earth and Mars are on the same side of the Sun,
2. Earth is at it's farthest from the Sun (aphelion) and
3. Mars is at its closest to the Sun (perihelion).

Right now Mars is almost 240 million miles away as shown below.

But in July of 2018 Mars will be only 35.8 million miles away. At that distance at a constant 1g acceleration you could reach Mars in just 30 hours. But you'd be traveling at 2.3 million miles per hour when you crashed. So if we cut our acceleration time down to 21 hours, we'd travel 17.3 million miles reaching a top speed of 1.65 million mph. Decelerating at 1g for another 21 hours should get us to Mars in 42 hours. So, if we leave Earth on July 27, 2018 at noon, we'd reach Mars on July 29, 2018 at 5 AM. Pack your bags, we're going.

The US is saying "enough" but China will probably be sending air defense assets to their sand bar fortresses.

SINGAPORE (AP) -- China vigorously defended its South China Sea land reclamation projects in the face of persistent criticism from U.S. leaders at an international security summit Saturday as the standoff in the Asia-Pacific region shows few signs of abating.

U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter and other officials sharply condemned the artificial island-building, but provided no details on what steps the U.S. may take to press China into diplomatic talks.

Carter said China's land reclamation was out of step with international rules, and that turning underwater land into airfields would not expand its sovereignty.

Vlad the Crimea Inhaler will not receive his G7 party hat this year.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has no chance to be invited to the next G7 summit, German Chancellor Angela Merkel told German edition Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

According to the German Chancellor, the Great Seven is a community of common values, RBK reports. “The annexation of Crimea and the events in East Ukraine are an evident violation of the international law and the common values,” Merkel added. That is why Putin cannot be invited to the G7 summit that will be held in Bavaria in June, she thinks.

Europe cannot consider mitigating Russia sanctions until the reasons why they were imposed are liquidated, Merkel believes.

Actually, Russia was expelled from the G8 after the annexation of Crimea. The last summit was held in Brussels instead of Sochi and Putin was not invited there.

The Rooskies and the democrats believe in taking other people's stuff. The democrats take other people's money and the Russians take other people's land.

A school isolated by Idaho’s vast landscape has armed members of its faculty with four rifles and 2,000 rounds of ammo fearing a gun attack.

It’s the best security precautions Garden Valley School officials say they can offer 200 of its students in the case of an armed attack since first responders could be at least a half hour away, according to a local report.

Signs will warn dangerous intruders that the tiny elementary, middle and high school “is armed" and they will be met with force while awaiting the nearest law enforcement agency, the Boise County Sheriff’s Office, which is a 50-mile drive from the school and based in Boise.

Weathermen love to mix it up. You can hear the delight in their voices as they warn us of impending doom from a thunderstorm, blizzard, flood, school crossing or approaching parade. And then nothing happens until the next weather cycle where civilization as we know it is yet again in dire peril.

The Houston flooding is a great example. We are being told this is “unprecedented”… Houston is “under water”… and it is due to manmade global warming.

Yes, the flooding in Houston yesterday was severe, and a serious threat to life and property. A genuine weather disaster that has brought on suffering.

But, no, this was not “unprecedented”. Flooding from Tropical Storm Allison in 2001 was more widespread, and flood waters were deeper. There is no comparison.

[...]On the other issue, the entire climate change situation has become politicized, which I hate. Those on the right, and those on the left hang out in “echo chambers”, listening to those with similar world views refusing to believe anything else could be true.

Everyone knows the climate is changing; it always has, and always will. I do not know of a single “climate denier”. I am still waiting to meet one.

The debate involves the anthropogenic impact, and this is not why I am writing this piece. Let’s just say the Houston flood this week is weather, and not climate, and leave it at that.

A Judge's Gift

Good guy Judge Fred Scullin teaches the idiots running Washington, DC, what the Founding Fathers intended so many years ago. Unfortunately they weren't listening.

On May 28, Judge Frederick J. Scullin Jr. denied the District of Columbia’s request for an administrative state in the ruling against the “good reason” provision in DC’s concealed carry permitting process.

The “good reason” requirement forced residents applying for a concealed carry permit to demonstrate a justification for wanting to carry a gun. Breitbart News previously reported that Judge Scullin ruled against the requirement on May 18, saying it “impinges on Plaintiffs’ Second Amendment right to bear arms.”

The administrative stay would have extended the effective date for Scullin’s May 18 ruling, giving the city more time to evaluate options. The denial of this stay means DC must immediately begin issuing permits without a “good reason” requirement.

The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) represented the plaintiffs in the case.

Like everything else, it helps to know where not to be at certain times.

No getting around it: Filling up your gas tank at certain stations in Detroit can be hazardous to your health.

Police Chief James Craig said at a Tuesday media conference that he’d avoid getting gas late at night in the city unless he had to, and he urged residents to be careful at the pump, according to Tom Greenwood of The Detroit News.

“I wouldn’t, but if I had to, I would,” Craig said. “But I’d probably be very aware of my surroundings.”

Craig’s commented after a driver was killed early Monday evening while trying to flee a carjackihg attempt at an east-side gas station.

Poor guy. Instead of Green Stamps, he should have received body armor.

Immaculate US military cemetery at Margraten, Netherlands

Some people never forget to express their gratitude for the sacrifice of others.
One example, the Dutch.

MARGRATEN, Netherlands — They haven’t forgotten. For 70 years, the Dutch have come to a verdant U.S. cemetery outside this small village to care for the graves of Americans killed in World War II.

On Sunday, they came again, bearing
Memorial Day bouquets for men and women they never knew, but whose 8,300 headstones the people of the Netherlands have adopted as their own.

For the American relatives of the fallen, it was an outpouring of gratitude almost as stunning as the rows of white marble crosses and Jewish Stars of David at the Netherlands American Cemetery. Each grave has been adopted by a Dutch or, in some cases, Belgian or German family, as well as local schools, companies and military organizations. More than 100 people are on a waiting list to become caretakers.

At the cemetery’s annual commemoration, 6,000 people poured onto the 65-acre burial grounds just a few miles from the German border, including scores of descendants of American war dead who had traveled here from all over the United States. They were eager to pay tribute to parents or grandparents who had died to defeat the Nazis. But they also wanted to thank the Dutch families who had been tending the graves of their loved ones, often passing the responsibility from one generation to the next.
