Anne Coulter: Natural-Born Losers

The question of whether President Obama should send more troops to Afghanistan misses the point.

What Obama really needs to do is: Invent a time machine, go back to the 2008 presidential campaign and not say, over and over and over again, that Afghanistan was a "war of necessity" while the war in Iraq was a "war of choice." (Oh, and as long as you're back there, ditch Van Jones, Valerie Jarrett and that gay "school safety" czar.)

The most important part of warfare is picking your battlefield, and President Bush picked Iraq for a reason.

Neither Iraq nor Afghanistan attacked us on 9/11 -- or the dozen other times American embassies, barracks and buildings came under jihadist onslaught since Jimmy Carter presided over "regime change" in Iran in 1979. Both countries -- and others -- gave succor to terrorists who had attacked the U.S. repeatedly, and would do so again.

As liberals endlessly reminded us during the three weeks of war in Afghanistan before the U.S. military swept into Kabul, Afghanistan has all the makings of a military disaster. It is mountainous, cave-pocked, tribal, has no resources worth fighting for and a populace that makes Khalid Sheikh Mohammed look like Alistair Cooke.

By contrast, Iraq had a relatively educated, pro-Western populace, but was ruled by a brutal third-world despot.

It's always something with the Muslims. You either have mostly sane people governed by a crazy dictator -- Iraq, Iran and Syria (also California and Michigan) -- or a crazy people governed by relatively sane leaders -- Pakistan and Afghanistan, post-U.S. invasion (also Vermont and Minnesota). There are also insane people ruled by insane leaders (but enough about the House Democratic Caucus). Sane people with sane rulers has not been fully tried yet.

Nickie knows I'm not a fan of the Afghan war (hawk in most regard, though I am). As a veteran of the earliest phase of that particular war, I would like to see some sort of clear POLICY on clearly what the goals of that war are and that can only come from the Commander-in-Chief, who comes to the table as a "community organizer" without the slightest clue of what he's doing.

I'm absolutely opposed to wasting American lives on a goat-rope. And that is what Afghanistan has been by in large.

Sideshow Barak is giving a speech in New Orleans (live on FOX) at the moment, while men are in harm's way, waiting for him to make a frigging decision.

This is one of the best columns i have seen in a long time. Ann is much better in print than in person. She is taking names here:

"But Democrats couldn't care less about military strategy -- at least any "strategy" that doesn't involve allowing soldiers to date one another. To the extent you can get liberals to focus on national security at all, you will find they are rooting against their own country."

Amen. Preach it, Ann. The Democrats will and are endangering the nation. Ah, but at least we'll learn a lesson, assuming we survive.

P.S. The blast about the endless reserves of cabbies is most excellent, as well.

Great link, nanc. Thank you.

LL, I share your feelings on Afghanistan. Iraq was the proper battlefield. The contrarians on the Left will easily accept the death of US forces if it isn't a winning proposition. Winning wars is evil.

DC, I phoned Ann only moments ago to notify her of your words of praise. Her appreciation was obvious through the blubbering tears.

Once again, my friend, you have brightened someone's existence.

WTG Ann!
Thanks Nickie and Thanks Nanc for the link. A disgrace indeed.

Just when you think the liberal mindset can't get more despicable, they manage to surprise me.

Ted "Splash" Kennedy doesn't deserve one penny of the troops' money and certainly doesn't deserve an institute of education named after him.

Cube, what the hell makes you ever think that the Communists couldn't get any more despicable?

There's an old saying.
Democrats kill Marines.

I know it doesn't look like much, but read it several times.

LL, thank you for your service. And I agree, I have no idea what we could gain in A-stan at this point. I say get out, let them build up again and bomb them like we did in 2002 using an incredible minimum of ground forces.

Lord only knows, from the articles and comments... It is definitely good to be in the company of gentlemen and ladies of right minds. A sorely needed thing in these time of Emos and the "liberal" way. You know, I might have to order some cigars and find my humidor, then set up a scotch session. Hmm, maybe the Rocky Patels are still good? Maybe the pipe instead?

If I can keep my fingers off the comment keys while doing so, anyway. Such comments belong only in the company of like sipping and smoking gents. A place not always quite fit for ladies. The good old days I never got to know well enough, yet.

Afghanistan is now a war for pride and self-respect, both terrible reasons for sacrificing Americans.

We no longer have our air base at Manas, in Khyrgistan, which makes post-withdrawl air strikes against a "triumphant" Al Qaeda/Taliban nearly impossible.

The real test for Obama's World without American gravity is whether he and the Donks are ready to withdraw from Afghanistan.

The video of slaughter and the bloodbath of Islamic fanaticism that follows will forever be at their doorstep. It will be their helicopter-on-the-roof condemnation, fair or not.

I doubt their actually willing or courageous enough to drop the mask in this way and show their dirty underwear. So, they'll sacrifice Americans for pride and face-saving while they find some analogue to the Paris Peace Talks to give them cover.
