When cops would me what work I was doing with government grants, I told them I was a pimp and the Department was my stable of whores and the "john" was the state or federal government, whomever was fronting the money. The "john" wanted some action and was willing to pay for it. The cops then performed whatever the "john" wanted whether it was narcotics enforcement, juvenile delinquency prevention, domestic violence suppression, traffic enforcement or anything else. Even notifying immigration enforcement officers when an illegal alien is arrested.

To put it bluntly, we give the "john" the dough he needs to satisfy his fetish through our tax dollars and then have to perform like a circus monkey to get it back. Nice system.

For years under the Obama administration the federal "john" didn't complain when he didn't get the action he wanted, which was the notification of illegal alien arrests. Money still changed hands and the jurisdictions got paid for non-performance.

That is changing.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Monday he’ll begin punishing sanctuary cities, withholding potentially billions of dollars in federal money — and even clawing back funds that had been doled out in the past.

Speaking at the White House, Mr. Sessions said his department is preparing to dole out more than $4 billion in funds this year, but will try prevent any of it from going to sanctuaries.

“Countless Americans would be alive today … if these policies of sanctuary cities were ended,” Mr. Sessions said.

Of course not all grant programs are a waste of money. But like all organized crime, the house takes it's cut, you gotta pay the vigorish and the government vig is a very healthy slice of the take.

DNA - Double Helix Contains The Death Code

In the beginning Man was not meant to die. But his eternal life was predicated on the condition that he would live in a perfect, sinless world in harmony with his Creator. That has not been the case for eons.

Most men fear death because, no  matter what they profess, they fear the unknown or subconsciously fear Judgement. People of means have long sought to defeat death, whether through the vaunted Fountain of Youth, emulsions, ointments, spells or vitamins.

But now as the secrets of DNA are unraveled, it becomes possible that someday people will live long past the three score and ten average life span of today.

But is it a good idea?

Some obviously think so...

But ours is not a sinless world. What happens to the value of human life? Just because people may live longer does not mean that people will live better. I shudder to think of some people I know extending their foolishness for twenty, thirty, forty generations. Especially when a 60 year prison sentence for murder is less than a tenth of your anticipated life time?

A life sentence today may last for sixty, seventy years at most. But what happens when a life sentence means a span of 600 or 700 years. What is the cost and who bears it?  We already have welfare families that have not worked in generations, what kind of world would we invite upon ourselves to support such unnecessary largesse?

No society can afford such a radically prolonged life span for so many. But for a privileged few ... there's a possibility. There is but one answer, an elitist dictatorship - which is probably the direction we are headed in regardless of longevity. And they will control the government agencies that decide who receives this blessing of long life. Perhaps they'll call it ObamaLongTermCare and there will most certainly be death panels.

There is a condition to this. As long as your quality of life is good, your health is acceptable, yes, drink to long life. Even if life isn't so good, a so-so life is still better than no life. But when life is an awful, wretched, painful, sorrow-filled experience; when life itself becomes a hateful condition and death is your only release, what if you can't die?

Revelations 9:6 declares that "In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will desire to die, and death will flee from them." This is the Tribulation, when men will long to die but cannot. I cannot imagine a more ironic fate from the hands of a Holy God than to deny death to those who would give anything to live. As stated in Mark 8:36, "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?"

Pull The IRS's Fangs

The government is pissing away money as fast as it prints it and this clown at the IRS wants more money so he can hire more thieves and bullies to collect more money. Typical government in action.

IRS Commissioner John Koskinen said Tuesday that service at his agency has gotten so bad that they are ignoring more than 60 percent of taxpayers’ phone calls during this tax season.

Speaking at the National Press Club, Mr. Koskinen pleaded with more money, saying a budget boost would help them staff their overwhelmed customer service lines. He also said it would help reverse staffing cuts in their compliance division, where he said the government will lose $2 billion this year in money it would otherwise have been able to collect if it had better staffing.

Congress has cut or held the agency’s funding static for several years now, with lawmakers deeming the agency recalcitrant in solving problems, and unrepentant for having targeted tea party groups for intrusive scrutiny.

If Congress would stop passing complicated revenue laws that favor special interests and deep pocket political donors and simplify the tax code, they would collect more money. I pay an accountant to do my taxes just so the IRS leaves me the hell alone.

Last year the IRS went after me for another $1,500 in taxes. My accountant looked at the letter, looked at my return, said, "They're idiots" and sent them a letter explaining that I filed exactly the same as I did the previous year and they're not making sense. The IRS backed off. I wonder how many people are intimidated by these tactics and just pay up.

The best way to kill an unrepentant, out of control agency, is not to feed it. Hopefully that is what Congress will continue to do. Starve the IRS into a mere shadow of itself.

Since 2000, the number of IRS employees has declined by 2.6%, from 97,074 to 94,516. Other than Congress, the IRS has the lowest public approval rating than any other US governmental entity.

About seven years ago the IRS wouldn't send me my federal tax over payment - a little over $1,000. I spent over six hours on the phone, two hours a day for three days, trying to get someone to give me an answer. Starve the bastards.

We Are The Seat Belts

Scripture and history warns us that life is not a smooth path from the cradle to the grave. It's a well-worn path that all must travel, and for some it is an expressway with regular rest stops and no red lights.

For most of us it is a rocky, bumpy, debris-shewn roller coaster ride - seat belts are required.

For the billions who travel on the well-worn path, it is best to prepare for the worst. And in this respect, God has indeed provided the safety belts ... us.

We are the straps that help us cling to life when we are about to get thrown out of the car. Our family, friends, neighbors and communities grab hold of our ankles and keep us in our seats. It doesn't mean that our hair won't get mussed or our clothes torn or even wind up missing a limb or two. But for the most part, we remain.

Over the course of millennia the Church has been an important link in this support system and, although weakened by liberal doctrine and lack of faith, it still remains a vital component for survival when SHTF.

Author James Jay Carafano (see below) has published an e-book, "Surviving the End: A Practical Guide for Everyday Americans in the Age of Terror." In his book Mr. Carafano states:

"... there are two crucial moments that determine whether someone will survive a disaster. The first is the “golden hour,” when a seriously injured individual needs to receive emergency medical care in order to survive. The next tipping point is the 72-hour mark. Individuals who can’t get water or are exposed to harsh weather for up to three days will likely die.

But what happens if the crisis is extended and ongoing and the government is unable to provide assistance in the wake of a catastrophic event?"

This is where the rubber meets the road. We have seen this in disasters before. The federal or state government will step in, but they can be slow, cumbersome beasts. Local services - fire, police, Red Cross - are the fastest government responders in an emergency.  But in the face of overwhelming major events they are a mile wide and an inch deep. And again, where do we turn to when all levels of government are reduced to helplessness?

"There is a pretty broad consensus that faith-based organizations are among the top performers during a crisis. The tasks they perform, such as supplying food, clothing, and shelter to those in need, or providing mental health responses for everything from stress and grief counseling to recovery from spousal abuse, can be immensely valuable for communities struggling to survive in the wake of a catastrophe. Being connected to a faith-based organization could well be critical for staying alive when nature or men do their worst."

In my church we assign tasks to assist members who require assistance. It may only require a single man with a snow shovel or a month of meals or a squad of men under the leadership of someone who knows carpentry to make repairs.  We elect deacons who have proven that they can provide leadership and possess a servant's heart. We are beginning to discuss what we can do if a prolonged emergency takes place.

But an emergency is something that occurs out of the ordinary. What do we do when the extraordinary becomes the norm? The next step after that is this: what do we as a church do if government collapses and there is no one to respond? Grocery stores will have nothing but empty shelves in a matter of hours. What if electric service disappears?  Natural gas? Petroleum?

The answer is this, we have God's grace and we have us.  I truly believe the End Times are approaching and our response should not be to bury our heads in the sand or to sit around waiting for Jesus to turn the lights back on. We must prepare to take care of each other if the need arises.

On an August day hot and sweaty

I was nagged by my wife Betty

To mow the grass as it was getting rather long

States' Backlash

 
Some states are considering legislation aimed at preventing the NSA from spying on their citizens. California, Missouri and Arizona  are among them.
US News & World Report:

A bill introduced in California would deny NSA facilities access to water and electricity from public utilities and outlaw NSA research partnerships with state universities.

A bipartisan team of California state senators introduced legislation Monday that would prohibit the state and its localities from providing "material support" to the National Security Agency.

If the bill becomes law, it would deny NSA facilities access to water and electricity from public utilities, impose sanctions on companies trying to fill the resulting void and outlaw NSA research partnerships with state universities.

Companies with state contracts also would be banned from working with the NSA.

"I agree with the NSA that the world is a dangerous place," state Sen. Ted Lieu, the bill's Democratic co-author, said in a statement. "That is why our founders enacted the Bill of Rights. They understood the grave dangers of an out-of-control federal government."

Lieu said the NSA's surveillance programs pose "a clear and present danger to our liberties."

"The last time the federal government massively violated the U.S. Constitution," he said, "over 100,000 innocent Americans were rounded up and interned."

[...]A similar bill was introduced in Arizona by state Sen. Kelli Ward, a Republican, in December. Ward described her bill as a preventive strike and a way "to back our neighbors [in Utah] up."

The OffNow coalition of advocacy groups is urging Utah lawmakers to pass their own version of the legislation to override the city of Bluffdale's water contract with the NSA's $1.5 billion Utah Data Center. No legislator has publicly announced they will sponsor the bill.

In recent months, the Central Intelligence Agency and the Pentagon have been quietly waging a campaign to stop the State Department from allowing Roscosmos, the Russian space agency, to build about half a dozen of these structures, known as monitor stations, on United States soil, several American officials said.

[...] Russia’s efforts have also stirred concerns on Capitol Hill, where members of the intelligence and armed services committees view Moscow’s global positioning network — known as Glonass, for Global Navigation Satellite System — with deep suspicion and are demanding answers from the administration.

“I would like to understand why the United States would be interested in enabling a GPS competitor, like Russian Glonass, when the world’s reliance on GPS is a clear advantage to the United States on multiple levels,” said Representative Mike D. Rogers, Republican of Alabama, the chairman of a House Armed Services subcommittee.

This Is Why Private Industry Should Be Left Alone

This weekend, Texas-based 3D printing company Solid Concepts announced that it had successfully fired 600 shots over two tests from its all-metal 3D-printed handgun, the first known prototype of its kind.

This test was conducted six months prior to ATF's cluster test fire. Designed by truly competent professionals, it was assembled by a twelve year old.

The ATF is now considering banning all twelve year-olds.

Waco, How About Visiting Waco?

Amid a furious global controversy over the National Security Agency's spying on U.S. allies, Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey said on Monday he will order all new FBI agents to visit the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial to reflect on past “abuse and overreach” by the agency.

Comey noted that former FBI Director Louis Freeh had ordered all new agent classes to visit the Holocaust Museum “so they could see and feel and hear in a palpable way the consequences of abuse of power on a massive, almost unimaginable scale.”

That will continue, Comey said.

But “I'm going to direct that all new agents and analysts also visit the Martin Luther King Memorial here in Washington,” the FBI director announced, with President Barack Obama looking on. “It will serve as a different kind of lesson, one more personal to the bureau, of the dangers in becoming untethered to oversight and accountability.”

The FBI spied on King, the famed civil rights leader, throughout the 1960s until his assassination in 1968. 

How about a trip to Waco to reflect on government"overreach"?

I'll never forget walking into the PD locker room in April of 1994 and right above the shoe shine machine there was a poster advertising a picnic sponsored by our local ATF office. The picnic advertisement sounded like a celebration - all area law enforcement were invited to attend the ATF's "Waco BBQ." While shining my shoes I read it several times and I was bothered by the callousness of this.

Sure, you have to have a thick skin in our profession; but this was a bit off the map, even for cops.

I didn't go, I don't think many did.

It's The Washington Way

The US military is preparing a "world viewer" to get instant detailed information for any place where troops might be dispatched.

From USA Today:

Future military operations may use a constantly updated digital "image skin" for a comprehensive map of the world under development by the Pentagon's National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA).

This week, the NGA sought information from potential contractors to help develop the "orthorectified image skin" that would provide the base layer for the world map. Such a map would give the military a clearer picture of any potential trouble spot where troops would have to operate.

The U.S. Geological Survey defines orthoimagery as "high resolution aerial images that combine the visual attributes of an aerial photograph with the spatial accuracy and reliability" of a traditional map.

"A key element necessary to support global readiness is the availability of a current and accurate worldwide image base to ensure a common operational picture for all users," the NGA document says.

Years ago I might have said "Bravo" and followed this story with great interest, particularly as my daughter was starting the first of her deployments. Real time tactical assessments for any place on the planet is an exciting concept. But with the recent debacle of ObamaCare software I'm wondering who, or rather which Obama buddy will get this multimillion dollar contract (they all are multimillion) and screw it up beyond all hope.

The software for ObamaCare was developed by a single source contract that went to the company of the husband of one of Michelle's college classmates. Single source means that there was no bid.

First Lady Michelle Obama’s Princeton classmate is a top executive at the company that earned the contract to build the failed Obamacare website.

Toni Townes-Whitley, Princeton class of ’85, is senior vice president at CGI Federal, which earned the no-bid contract to build the $678 million ObamaCare enrollment website at Healthcare.gov. CGI Federal is the U.S. arm of a Canadian company.

Townes-Whitley and her Princeton classmate Michelle Obama are both members of the Association of Black Princeton Alumni.

George Schindler, the president for U.S. and Canada of the Canadian-based CGI Group, CGI Federal’s parent company, became an Obama 2012 campaign donor after his company gained the Obamacare website contract.

As reported by the Washington Examiner in early October, the Department of Health and Human Services reviewed only CGI’s bid for the Obamacare account. CGI was one of 16 companies qualified under the Bush administration to provide certain tech services to the federal government. A senior vice president for the company testified this week before The House Committee on Energy and Commerce that four companies submitted bids, but did not name those companies or explain why only CGI’s bid was considered.

I have worked with federal contracts and dealt with federal auditors and the IG's office for the DOJ. Right now, any contract that involves over $5,000 in federal funds must be bid out. Single source federal contracts are usually awarded under a limited set of circumstances.

• Where the compatibility of equipment, components, accessories, computer software, replacement parts or service is the paramount consideration.
• Where a sole supplier’s item is needed for trial use or testing.
• Where the purchase of mass-produced movie or video films or written publications distributed or sold primarily by the publisher is needed.
• Where the purchase of property for which it is determined there is no functional equivalent is needed.

The contract that CGI Federal has to develop this software is conservatively estimated at about $100 million.

Getting By

I sometimes wonder if this country is falling apart at the seams. Everything good I believed our nation once stood for has been ridiculed; our people have abandoned common sense and morality; industrious, hard working souls are mocked by those whose sole contribution to society is breeding and scamming. Modesty and humility have been replaced by self aggrandizement. Half the country pays no federal taxes yet still demands a handout while the other half struggles to get by.

And the amateur clown show that is the Obama Administration just keeps on dancing and cavorting across the world stage. There seems to be no end to the red rubber beep-beep noses, squirting flowers and farting bladders that the our government presents as sound domestic and foreign policy. Few are amused.

European Politicians React Fiercely to U.S. Spying Allegations

Some politicians say it would be "unacceptable" if U.S. intelligence agencies had spied on Angela Merkel's cellphone, as the continent's leaders gathered in Brussels for a two-day summit.

We once had one of the finest healthcare systems in the world. That also is a thing of the past. And if we're not careful, we may be facing the same kind of medical system that the Chinese "enjoy."

The Department of Homeland Security may have had this in mind when they bought all those armored vehicles and ammo.

Workers Comp, Medicaid, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance - you name it and there's a scam going to defraud the taxpayer of billions. But does that stop the do gooders in government?

The creation of just about any gigantic welfare program has a reliable potential for creating a correspondingly gigantic opportunity for fraudsters — and ObamaCare is looking like no exception, with a vengeance. Federal and state officials as well as private advocacy groups have been warning for months about the coming deluge of scammers going on the prowl for people’s sensitive personal and financial information...

Already there are over 700 sites that are trying to scam the unwary by imitating the government site and getting people to give them confidential information. Obamacare is a godsend for the unscrupulous.
