After church my wofe and I drove to her aunt's house for brunch. This is the first time we've visited since her uncle died. Her cousins were there: Joey, Nickie, Sonny and Maria as well as some of their children and grandchildren. My wife is an only child and her many cousins (14 on her father's side and 5 on her mom's) are more like brothers and sisters. Everyone is an second or three generation Italian on both parents' sides.
As I listened to the easy banter and teasing that always accompanies such a confluence (stick your St. Nicholas medal under your shirt - don't be a Guido), I thought of Rhod's picture of Obongo in juxtaposition with the ficticious Clampett familia. The point is, he just doesn't belong. I fear that he never did - anywhere.
Consider what little we know of his background, tossed about like a three turd salad from one relative to another, from one culture to another. Abandoned at age two by his father, early formative years in Islamic countries; no grounding, no settling until as a young man he falls into the clutches of communists. His adult life spent attending a church that taught that America is a curse...
God help us. His whole life is an patch quilt created from bits and pieces of whatever fancy he managed to grasp.
And he is our President.
