A Great and Funny Day in the Senate

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) had a great day yesterday.

First, using Senate rules he required the Senate Clerk to read the 767-page amendment spelling by Bernie Sanders, the Socialist from VT, spelling out a single-payer, government-run health-care system.

Sanders then angrily scurried to the floor and pulled the amendment. Funny and strange. But more funny. It violated Senate rules for Sanders to do so (rules required the entire amendment to be read, even if it did inflict the entire chamber with narcolepsy and/or nightmares). Still, for comedic relief, perhaps we can forgive the Demos/Socialistas/Same Thing on this one.

Then, going for the comedic, pointy-toed-kick-to-the groin double-header sweep, Sen. Coburn proposed an amendment that each senator certify that he/she has read the bill and also understands it. No fooling. But it's even better than that. Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT) objected. You can't make this up.

The only thing that bothers me about this grand day is that I have to give credit to Oklahoma ... for giving America Sen. Coburn. But I will. Sen. Coburn is about as good as there is in Washington.

The Demos are imploding, ladies and gentlemen. But stay vigilant. It appears that Harry Reid is planning some sort of midnight vote on Christmas Eve -- about the time when Jacob Marley paid Scrooge a visit.

Trestin, I tell ye ... 767 pages from any senator, much less from that braying eeyore Sanders, will blow the tightenin' strings right off ye olden coonskin.

I think that's why they couldn't take it. "For the love of God, man ... pull that amendment down!!"

And Wood, keep throwin' them logs on the fire. It's about to get really good. Lib heads are exploding everywhere. Olber was threatening civil disobedience last night if they pass any of the current versions being bantered about.

Olbermann -- I don't have a PDR handy, but does any one know what combination of mental illnesses that he has?

These pinkoes in the Senate don't seem to remember the good old days prior to the 2006 elections when THEY used to pull these procedural jems on the Republican majority.

Gotta love Tom Coburn, I think he remembers those day, for sure.

I love you, too, Gene. Now ... get some clothes on!

Fredd, I have always liked Coburn. I could tell he would do well. He was painted as "an extremist", some goofball obstetrician who was pro-life.

He has common sense, and a life outside of Washington.

Fun to watch these days. Stand by.

I think we will see a repeat of yesterday before it's all over.

Bill,

I want to see a fight to the death on the Senate floor between Bernie Sanders and Harry Reid. May the dirtiest man win ... wait, I just ceded the fight to D. Harry.

May the most corrupt win? Tie. Oh, well.

I am looking for one of those Korean-style brawls with chairs flying, bodies somersaulting over tables, etc.

Well done, Rhod. Excellent Marley reference.

The Repubs did a real filibuster.
Only this way is better. They could use a tag team in the well. And not do the talking.
And not to feel sorry for the clerks. They could tag team the reading as well.
BUT, I was naive. Those squirming pirates broke the procedure rules.
I let myself forget. They Are PIRATES.
The Repubs said that they are going to do this again, read the whole Bill.
What will the Dems do to stop it? You know they will do dirty tricks.

Exactly. It's guerilla warfare in the U.S. Senate, TSWS.

Will be an interesting ride the next few days.

Repubs need to remember (they've got the evidence now) ... Demos don't play by rules. They break them.

Ben Nelson got his payola, mark on your calendars Dec 19th, the day America slid solidly into the abyss. Tom Coburn may force the reading of this 2,037 pages of puke, but it's essentially in the bag for the pinkoes.

It's now 2010 or bust.
