Wage Gap Crap

Liberal heads are exploding as another myth crumbles under examination. This myth? That woman are typically paid less than men. From Breitbart:
Research on the gender pay gap from the American Enterprise Institute reveals that women overwhelmingly choose less-lucrative university majors.

The research, conducted by AEI scholar Mark J. Perry who is a professor at the University of Michigan in Flint, argues that any gap in earnings between American men and women are the result of the different career field choices rather than employer discrimination.

According to Perry’s research, American women received 57% of all bachelor degrees granted in 2014, which equated to nearly 200,000 more degrees granted to females than to males. Despite this disparity, the degrees granted to women came overwhelmingly in lower-paying majors, such as Nursing, Journalism, and English.

  • For example, in 8 out of the 10 highest-paying college majors — various Engineering fields, Computer Science and MIS — men represented more than 80% of the college graduates in those fields. The only college major of the top ten where women are over-represented is Nursing, a field where 84.4% of the bachelor’s degrees in 2014 were awarded to women.
  • For the top ten highest-paying college majors as a group, men earn an average of 72% of the bachelor’s degrees in those fields. For the top 20 college majors, men earn an average of nearly two-thirds of those degrees; for the top 30, the male average is 60.5% and for the top 50 (actually only 40 majors are considered), the average for men is 53.7% of degrees.
Perry concludes that the much-discussed pay gap is not a result of gender discrimination by employers, but rather the result of the choices of females entering the labor force.

A Maritime Vasectomy?

Perhaps the Merchant Marine should best prepare for a maritime vasectomy where the supply of seamen is no longer required.
Ship designers, their operators and regulators are gearing up for a future in which cargo vessels sail the oceans with minimal or even no crew. Advances in automation and ample bandwidth even far offshore could herald the biggest change in shipping since diesel engines replaced steam.

[...]British engine maker Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC is leading the Advanced Autonomous Waterborne Applications initiative involving other companies and universities. It foresees technologies long used to improve commercial airline operations migrating to ships. The group also is tapping know-how from those working on driverless cars to adapt for safe at-sea autonomous operations.

A future unmanned ship could resemble some of the most advanced combat drones. It would sport infrared detectors, high-resolution cameras and laser sensors to monitor its surroundings. The vast troves of data would be transmitted to command centers where staff do little more than monitor progress and ensure ships are operating at optimum speeds.

The consortium completed a study this year that concluded such vessels are feasible and offer savings.
Apparently the first of new advanced GPS satellites have already been placed in orbit; these devices could support the bandwidth needed for remote piloting of oceanic merchant vessels. I'm also thinking that missiles, sonar and signal intelligence equipment could also be placed on board. With no crew there'd less chance of security breaches.

Jobs - The New Secret Weapon

Truth be told, if I had a good job, I wouldn't be killing this Jew!

I can remember needing a job just a few times in my life. I am rather fortunate in that I always seemed to be able to do what I had to to support myself and my family. But every single time I returned home discouraged and downhearted because of unemployment, or whenever I hung up the phone without gaining a job interview, well, I dreamed of kidnapping Christians or Jews or a bunch of school girls and making a video while cutting their heads off ..... NOT.

The Obama administration must be running out of village idiots, they have so many.
Marie Harf, a spokeswoman for the U.S. State Department, said America can’t win against the Islamic State “by killing them” and ought instead to focus on addressing what she claimed was the root problem — their poor economy — and help them get jobs.

“We’re killing a lot of them, and we’re going to keep killing more of them,” she said during a televised segment on “Hardball” with Chris Matthews. “So are the Egyptians, so are the Jordanians. They’re in this fight with us. But we cannot win this war by killing them. We cannot kill our way out of this war. We need in the medium to longer term to go after the root causes that leads people to join these groups, whether it’s a lack of opportunity for jobs, whether …”

Killing always works; you just have to kill a lot more. Loosen up the ROE a bit (actually a lot) and shrug off the collateral damage like we did in WWII. Job done. Go home.

Mary Harf, you ignorant slut, you should have shut up. But nooo, when you hit intellectual bedrock with your little shovel you get yourself a backhoe...
Mr. Matthews then cut her off and said: “We’re not going to be able to stop that in our lifetime or 50 lifetimes. There’s always going to be poor people. There’s always going to be poor Muslims, and as long as there are poor Muslims, the trumpet’s blowing and they’ll join. We can’t stop that, can we?”

Ms. Harf dug in and insisted improving the economic opportunities for the terrorist group is the key to turning back their terror, The Right Scoop reported.
We could be shoveling pig shit rather than killing Der Juden!
“We can work with countries around the world to help improve their governance,” she said. “We can help them build their economies so they can have job opportunities for these people.”
And now, Allah willing, let's go meet with the venture capital people!

I can visualize Gen. Eisenhower, Gen. MacArthur, Gen. Marshall, Gen. Bradley and Gen. Patton giving themselves massive heavenly face palms once they realize that all they had to do to defeat the German and Japanese war machines was to offer their soldiers jobs.

Living The Good Life ... In Mom's Basement

Someone got tired of their crap.
  • Companies making no effort to attract workers under age 35 because millennials are workplace divas
  • While corporations believe millennials are tech savy and creative they had some caveats about hiring employees under 35
  • More than half of CFOs said that millennials were disloyal to their companies
  • 46 per cent of corporations said that millennials had a sense of entitlement
Corporations are doing nothing to attract workers under 35 because millennials have a reputation for being workplace divas.

A new survey conducted by Duke University and CFO Magazine found that millennials are thought to need more management in the workplace and are also known for leaving jobs at the drop of the hat.

Unfortunately for millennials they are making much less money than their parents did and the economy is still slowly crawling its way out of an economic recession.

The Shape Of Things To Come

This really makes you go "hmmmmm."
Not for yourself probably; depending on your age, not right away.
I'll never see this as a problem. But my kids probably will. My grandkids ... most definitely.

No One Wants To Work Anymore

The wife and I were at her uncle's 90th birthday yesterday and had a great time. He looks really well for 90 and, except for a few senior moments, he's pretty much all there. A nice man. Always liked him.

Now,I married into an Italian union family - all construction trades. Every blessed one of them. They're great people, kind people. I try not to talk politics with them though. Except with one of my wife's cousin's husbands. He's worse than I am. I truly believe Obama is gonna disappear this guy.

Anyway, about half way through the affair, one of my wife's cousins comes over to visit and sits next to me. This cousin could have been Luca Brazi in the Godfather. He's only about 5'9 but that's up, down, sideways and back and forth. It's also his neck. He's the biggest non six footer I've ever seen and he's gentle as a lamb, a real sweetheart of a guy who, if he wasn't disabled, could tear you apart. A good while back he got very sick from heavy metal fumes on a job - it almost killed him and it is still messing with him. Nasty, nasty stuff.

Any how, we're talking about family and our kids and yada yada the weather's perfect, how Nickie looks so great (half of them are called Nickie or Tony) and he talks about the union. They just put out two weeks of ads looking for new members to train. The job starts at $32/hour and they pay you to go to school for two days a week - again, $32 an hour is the starting pay. Star-ting Pay.

Not one applicant.

Zip. Zilch. Nada.

I'm dumbfounded. That's almost sixty grand a year for a high school diploma or GED. Good, steady work, but the work is hard. And you have to have some smarts.
No one signed up.

A generation ago guys would kill to get into this union, you had to know someone and then get a step ladder to climb over the bodies. In 1973, while I was waiting for the police exam results, someone offers me a shot at this - I'm gone like a scalded cat and living on easy street today. In Florida, not crappy NYS where I'm still a working stiff.

It's too easy to get government benefits, stay home, smoke weed and screw like rabbits 'cause your girlfriend is on welfare.

We're done. Stick a fork in America.

Black Families Worse Off Under Obama

Everybody is worse off under Obama. The recession officially ended in 2009, but for blacks, Obama's administration has been a disaster. But that's alright for blacks because if Obama had a son, he would have been Trayvon Martin.

Make sense to you?

From the NRO:
Buried in a New York Times story about the economy was this arresting statistic: Median family income for black Americans has declined a whopping 10.9 percent during the Obama administration. It has declined for other groups as well — 3.6 percent for non-Hispanic whites and 4.5 percent for Hispanics — but the figure for blacks is huge. This decline does not include losses suffered during the financial crisis and the recession that followed, but instead measures declines since June 2009, when the recession officially ended.

That’s not the only bad news for African Americans. The poverty rate for blacks was 25.8 percent in 2011. The black labor-force-participation rate, which rose throughout the 1980s and 1990s, has declined for the past decade and quite sharply under Obama to 61.4 percent. The black unemployment rate, according to Pew Research, stands at 13.4 percent. Among black, male high-school dropouts, PBS’s Paul Solman reports, the unemployment rate is a staggering 95 percent.

Does any of this affect the standing of the nation’s first black president with black Americans? Not a whit, apparently.
