House Passes SECRET Green Legislation

EIGHT REPUBLICANS MAKE PELOSI'S JOB EASIER

Paul Mirengoff at Power Line explains what happened.

The House passed cap-and-trade energy tax legislation last night even though no complete copy of that legislation existed, making it impossible for our representatives to know exactly what they were voting on. The vote was 219-212.

Eight Republicans voted in favor of the legislation. They are: Mary Bono (CA), Mike Castle (DE), Mark Kirk (IL), Leonard Lance (NJ), Frank LoBiondo (NJ), Chris Smith (NJ), John McHugh (NY), and David Reichert (WA).

It doesn't follow that these Republican votes (or at least four them) were critical to the passage of cap-and-trade. In the absence of Republican support, the Democratic leadership probably would have forced the necessary number of reluctant Dems to vote for the measure, instead of letting them off the hook.

But the eight Republicans still (a) voted for job-killing legislation rushed through before anyone could know exactly what it entails and (b) gave aid and comfort to some Democratic representatives by enabling them to avoid paying a political price for a "yea" vote they were prepared to provide if Speaker Pelosi needed it.

Let's start letting Senators know how we feel. Unfortunately, I have Feinstein and Boxer, but I'll phone their offices anyway.

Fuzzy's Dad is absolutely correct.

Welcome, FD. Glad you stopped by.

California's Mary Bono voted for it. She's the sort of towering intellectual genius that California sends to Washington DC. She's the widow of the late Sonny Bono, tone deaf member of the Sonny and Cher duo.

When Sonny hit a tree while snow skiing and died, she was considered a tractable cat's paw to take his place. Sympathetic retired people in the Palm Springs Congressional District sent the attractive, personable Mary to Washington.

Mary Bono has a BA degree in Art History. Soon after she graduated, she married Sonny and moved to Palm Springs where she was a soccer mom of sorts to Chesare and Chianna Bono until Sonny died in the skiing accident as mentioned above.

She married Glenn Baxley and divorced and in 2007, married Congressman Connie Mack IV (Florida).

Yes she has just about the same qualifications as Barack Obama - look for her on the next presidential ticket.

And she voted for the Cap/Trade Boondoggle.

Just a couple of corrections, LL.

It is my understanding that Sonny Bono's Arbor Day collision was a suicide. Don't bother arguing. I believe all the pieces fit together except, of course, Sonny's.

Mary is, if I'm not mistaken, actually married to elderly Connie Mack (former owner and manager of the Philadelphia Athletics). Yes, yet another May-December pairing.

She will probably be on a presidential ticket for the Over-My-Lifeless-Goomba-Corpse Party.

The May-December romance thing plays WELL in Palm Springs, a land populated by wealthy octogenarians, all of whom would like to take a poke at Mary (there's Something about Mary). They contribute to her campaign in much the same way as others play fantasy football.

Of course there IS a darker side. What if Sonny's collision with the tree was in fact a MURDER? It wouldn't be the first young gold digger who arranged to climb the ladder with a leg up from hubby's caracas. If true, she was elected and holds office in the proud tradition of Hillary Clinton (remember Vince Foster). Not precisely the same thing but the cold cunning would be similar.

Yeah, she might yet sit in the Oval Office, and not on some guys lap either...
