Palin Hints At Independent Conservative Movement

Tammy Bruce brings us this cool jewel...

In an interview with the Washington Times, Palin makes her most direct comments yet about Conservativism versus the Republican Party. In my humble opinion, it’s clear the GOP, unfortunately, is lost beyond the point of return. When you’re one year out of key campaigns to take back Congress in 2010 and Meghan McCain is The Oracle of the party, you know it’s over. If Tina Brown thought Ms. McCain’s willingness to be a Useful Idiot for liberals would undermine the conservative movement (and consequently Sarah Palin), she should take a serious and long look at what their attacks on Palin provoked: a stronger, more independent, more determined conservative leader and base.

Enter now Sarah Palin with very encouraging comments that lead one to believe that she is indeed planning to do what she must: build an independent conservative movement and take this nation back from the liberals which now control both parties. Thanks liberals, for provoking Sarah into the national scene while vetting that family at the same time.

One thing I will say, the Washington Times with their headline for this exclusive interview reveal an anti-Palin stance. She is, don’t doubt, a threat to every existing political status quo. I hope the Washington Times and their editors realize, sooner than later, that the Palin movement is unstoppable and their credibility would be saved simply by reporting the news instead of becoming a GOP version of the NYT.

EXCLUSIVE:
Palin to stump for conservative Democrats

The former Republican vice-presidential nominee and heroine to much of the GOP’s base said in an interview she views the electorate as embattled and fatigued by nonstop partisanship, and she is eager to campaign for Republicans, independents and even Democrats who share her values on limited government, strong defense and “energy independence.”

“I will go around the country on behalf of candidates who believe in the right things, regardless of their party label or affiliation,” …

“People are so tired of the partisan stuff — even my own son is not a Republican,” said Mrs. Palin, who stunned the political world earlier this month with her decision to step down as governor July 26 with 18 months left in her term.

Both her son, Track, 20, an enlisted soldier serving in Iraq, and her husband, Todd, are registered as “nonpartisan” in Alaska…

While the analysts and fellow politicians continue to debate the wisdom of her resignation decision, Mrs. Palin said she is eager to fight for her conservative beliefs when she leaves office.

The governor, 45, said she shared former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s view that Republicans, now trailing Democrats and independents in registration in many states, should back moderate-to-conservative Democrats in congressional districts and states where Republicans stand almost no chance of winning.

The object would be to build a majority coalition that reflects what polls suggest is the current center-right tilt of the U.S. electorate as a whole.

While this idea could work in 2010, I worry that splitting the conservatives between the Republicans and a third party in 2012 will only ensure a second term for Obama. We can't afford to split our vote, when Dems have such a lock on the nation's victocrats.

I love Sarah. And I hope whatever strategy she considers keeps in mind both the forest and the trees.

I agree, Opie.

It's becoming pretty obvious to me, though. that the Republican fallback position for 2010 is "Democrat-Lite".

This will certainly shake up everybody's plans.

Rather than focusing on "Conservatism" Palin would better serve moderate ex-republicans and moderate democrates by focusing on being a Constitutionalist and forming a "Constitutionalist" party.

Let the Raging Right WingNUTZ have the Republican party they destroyed and let the Loony Leftist Liberals have the Democrat party they destroyed and form a new third party that is known as "Constitutionalists."

Constitutionalists would focus on adhering to the U.S. Constitution, protecting the nation, fiscal responsibility and state's rights. Constitutionalists would also focus on setting a 2 term limit on all elected offices. If two terms is enough for the POTUS, two terms is enough for any other office. Constitutionalists would legislate with the understanding it is the government's job to assure everyone has the opportunity to achieve success but it is not the government's job to assure an outcome by tipping the playing field by taking from some who have made good choices and worked hard to give to those who have not done what it takes to avail themselve's of all the opportunities in the U.S.

Personally, I have no interest in Palin. She is no more qualified to lead the U.S. than is Obama. I am sick of people confusing voting for a leader with voting for American Idol.

Incidentally, I will vote against ANYONE, regardless of their party, who voted for TARP and/or STIMLUS and/or Cap-and-Trade.

Before anyone goes bonkers, I assure you, I am well aware of the fact Palin was not in a position to vote for any of the aforementioned economically disastrous schemes.

Just to clarify;

Raging Right WingNUTZ:
Ann Coulter
Sean Hannity
Rush Limbaugh
Pat Buchanan

Loony Leftist Liberals:
Keith Olbermann
Chris Matthews
Michael Moore
George Soros

You get the picture.

One other thing. No one who only serves 2 terms of anything is entitled to a lifetime pension of 80% and full medical coverage. It is an elected office and NO ONE gets those types of benefits volunteering to serve their nation. There is no reason an elected official is entitled to any more benefits than is a citizen who elected to serve their nation in the military.

Thank you. I feel better.

It makes sense if the country club republicans have already told her she is not the anointed one. Moving to the left won't help the GOP. They need to get back to first principles, but instead want to become the less liberal wing of the democratic party. May be it's a good idea she wants to start something different. The GOP grew out of the failing Whigs.

The Green Party and Libertarian Party are where former Democrats and Republicans go to slowly fade from view. A fitting and merciful end to the personality cult of Sarah Palin.

Enjoyed your blog. Continued success to you Nickie Goomba.

mz, I'm happy you feel better.

Thanks for stopping by and giving your passionate take.

Right Guy,

I tend to agree with you.

Also, a major shake-up to everybody's entrenched positions will, at least, get people focusing on the issues again. I hope.

Truth,

I don't believe you're near hearing the end of Sarah Palin.

It may be wishful thinking.

"One thing I will say, the Washington Times with their headline for this exclusive interview reveal an anti-Palin stance."

The Washington Post is nothing more than the newsletter of the Moonies. Check into it.

If Palin is going to start a third "conservative party", I'd wonder what Democrats would be paying her to do this. It would split the Republican vote for a long time.

As for a "cult of personality", that is hardly anything mainstream Democrats / Obama supporters should be complaining about in the other party.

Hooooo, I love the thought of a Conservative Party... but here in IL where EVERYONE'S a liberal, it would indeed split the Republican party down even further....
I'd love to see it work, though.

We have a Marxist-Socialist President. dm, If it takes a Sarah Palin to get Conservative juices flowing again, let's take the pain.

I'm getting sick of the lesser of two evils.

Cassie,

I can't think of a party more in need on a kick in the butt and a reality check that the cowardly crumpet-eating Republicans.

Thanks for the comment, Nickie Goomba. I wish I could say something intelligent about American politics but I'm too ignorant of the facts. What WE saw of Palin was filtered through, first, your media selectivity, then, ours. So, probably nothing like the human being after all that processing. Liked what I saw of Ron Paul, and that's about as far as I can go.

Anyway, best wishes from the UK.

Thanks, Rex...

Our views of Palin and Paul were also heavily filtered.

I actually like Palin. There may be some woman thing going on. But, I also think she is plain spoken and honestly understands what you and I go through in our lives. We need to shake up the republican party and get them back to conservative principles, as it doesn't seem they will do it on their own. She may be the the girl to do it.

The right needs to learn to fight. The left plays the dirty game. Sarah just found out how dirty.

Girl,

I agree. This may turn out to be some of the most intersting and most important series of elections in my lifetime.

Foxy,

Politics (especially Chicago politics) is a dirty game. John Mc Cain wasn't up to the challenge. Sarah will be.

Thanks woman...

Hi Nickie: I love Sarah, I know she is going to shake things up. The play book needs to be re-written, because the GOP has too many RINO's. In Chicago & all of Illinois, it's all DEM & the Repbl's are no good, Hello, Mark Kirk,(who needs him, turncoat.)

And I would take issue w/the comment EVERYONE in IL is a liberal! We may be outnumbered, but This Bunni hates liberals and all they stand for! How my family ever settled here, I'll never know, and now I'm stuck, thanks to the housing crash.

PS: Nickie: Glad you liked my review of Hurt Locker and it's on your "to do" list.

Bunni, I'd love to know how many potential Sarah supporters are out there but hesitant to speak. The haters can be overwhelming sometimes.

I see such parallels with The UK here, from 1997 when Phony Tony won our Government. When the spin and gloss wore off we were left a destitute and forsaken country. Whatever happens, republicans must unite behind a genuine and charasmatic leader.

Rightie, you are right. of course. And the charismatic piece is what turns a victory into a mandate.
