Killing Us Softly...

Explain THIS if you can. It's an old link, like Ming The Claim's obituary...from my library of weirdness.

I think this is the real reason the BO is sending 30,000 men to Afghanistan. preparing us for do not ask do not tell.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, Trestin.

This is not something that is talked about much. I wonder why.

Seriously, Opie. There's a lot within those cultures that isn't talked about. (Arafat symbolized some of them.)

Recommended: T.E. Lawrence.

Rhod: Egyptian Army 1:7 is the punk. It's a designation, like cook, deemed essential to morale.

The French had a different take on it, as heterosexuals. They established the Bordel Militarie de Campaign (mobile military brothel). An army can be debilitated by VD and the French knew this. Having an official brothel eliminated that concern since both soldiers and girls were checked before congress was allowed.

The Americans, living a higher puritan standard, could never allow anything like a BMC so the soldiers grazed on the local population and got sick.

No explanation from me,I just wish I had not clicked the link.

If you have not read it yet (been out for years) read 'Satanic Verses' by Salmom Rushdie,it goes along way into 'explaining' this perversion of this whole society and it's 'religion'.

Strange, but "Kite Runner" deals with this, too. I think the analysis in the link is excellent.

This is where very bad thinking goes ... to very bad places.

Ultimately, there always is a backlash to such monstrous behavior. To the extent it hasn't arrived already, their time is coming.

DC,
I loved the movie, Kite Runner. It is an excellent movie. I still need to read the book.

LL, the keeping of catamites isn't a practice of modern Western armies, as you say. Arafat had them, without doubt.

VD was epidemic, for a while, back in my division in '66 and '67, because the prostitutes were treating themselves with antibiotics, developing resistant strains.

That declined somewhat when USARV ruled that you couldn't rotate out until you were cured for 90 days.

Military ventures in Muslim countries has eliminated the problem.
